Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Also - another reason this wasn't a done deal in December...

Matt A would still be with Iowa State and waiting with Fred to make the jump.

Because, should Fred have good success, he ain't breaking apart his NBA coaching staff to bring in a guy who can only recruit.

Haha yep and all the players, and staff, and media know but aren't saying anything out of respect for Fred. And none of the national or Chicago media guys know despite the Bulls front office being notorious for leaks. That's totally believable.

And the fact they have leaked and leaked the opposite that he hadn't decided and didn't think he would and it is all on hold until he decides. Maybe Fred is trying to negotiate a better deal or maybe the front office is.spreading that to better position talks on Thibs but.if that were true why say they wouldn't entertain talks until Fred decides. Seems like.they are legitimately waiting on Fred.

Well, Paige's party is today. He is probably cool enough not to steal her thunder today. It is obviously being considered. Otherwise why let this torpedo recruiting. Jamie meeting with Otz last winter in Washington, Paige to KU, Otz back to ISU...my guess is we know by Monday. Black Monday (or maybe Sunday).
Fred's daughter going to Kansas has absolutely 0 to do with Fred leaving. Lol. C'mon man.

I wouldn't want to be a Hoiberg on campus the same year fred bolts. So, maybe not, but I'm certainly not writing it off. Especially since up until a few months ago his stump speech included that her dream has been to go to ISU. I couldn't care less where she goes but it fits the pattern that I believe all of this has been in the works for a while.

To be pedantic, Fitz actually said that Hoiberg was "all but gone". I guess that can be open to interpretation but he never said anything specifically about a done deal or anyone being notified.
Correct. Not a done deal, just heard that it's very likely that he is gone.

IF Fred takes the position, what does he do with Doug McDermott?

Rumor has it (at least in December) that the front office wanted Doug sent to the D-League but Thibs demanded he stay with the team.

Thibs and the front office don't see eye to eye. The Fred-Gar chemistry is what makes Fred a wanted man over there.

Would Fred let Doug go?

What does Fred do with Doug? I have to admit out of all of the things going on in the last few days, that question is easily #1 on my DGAF list.

Because he hasn't made up his mind told Gar he would think over the weekend? Or because it is good free media? Or because he wants you guys to quit melting down mid season and be grateful for what you have? Or he is gone.

You can't tell me after all of this time he doesn't know what he wants to do.

I think the first time I heard it was in January. I just find it hard to believe that Fred would be talking to the Bulls during the middle of the Big 12 season.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Ha so true. People have known for months that there was friction between thibs and the front office, and that he was all but done in Chicago due to leaks to the media. Yet now that Fred has given his answer, the front office and Chicago media is totally silent, but our entire team/AD knows, and they're all letting random posters on CF know that they know? Sorry if I'm a bit skeptical. I personally think it's a great example of the telephone game. "Fred is considering the job", morphs to "Fred is probably going to take the job", morphs to "Fred has a gentlman's agreement with the Bulls and has let the team know he's leaving".

I think it's a very real possibility that Fred goes to the Bulls, but to pretend that it's a certainty and set in stone at this point is just laughable.

I also find it ironic that people at ISU are begging Fred to stay, but it seems like a portion of Chicago fans are already hating the front office for driving Thibs away, think they are above NBA assistants and college coaches, and would probably be looking for excuses to hate Hoiberg the moment he got there. It's all quite funny in a sad way.

Front office friction? More like Iranian US nuke talks.

I wouldn't question the decision Fred makes to go the NBA. I'd question the timing. Gotta give ISU one more year. NBA jobs open up like telemarketing positions. Constantly. Coach this ultra talented roster you spent years building and then ride off to the NBA. If TJ or someone else is coaching ISU next season and we fall short of our goals, everyone will wonder what might have been. Like if Fizer had come back.......

The NBA is an unwatchable league full of divas.

I wish Freddie all the best, but sadly I won't see him if he jumps.

Not sure what game bores me more than the NBA. A horrible product

Have you been watching the playoffs?

A lot of people are just dead set against the NBA and won't give it a try because of their opinion. To each their own I guess. If you call yourself a fan of the game of basketball, I'm not sure how you can hate the NBA.

My guess (no sourzez) is that the rumors relate to Fred actually talking to the Bulls and people around the program making assumptions. I personally don't believe a decision has been made either way.
