And yes I feel well all can rightfully be royally PO'd at him over this. He should know as well as anyone that this is huge kick to the nuts to a school that's suffered more than we ever should have.

Just remember before hoiberg got here basketball was a train wreck. If we can make a solid hire all is not lost.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

This sucks.

if isu can't keep Hoiberg from using us as a stepping stone then there is no hope.

My question is: why are you surprised? He has always talked about coaching in the NBA, both directly and indirectly.

thinking he'd be here for 20 years was always wishful thinking. I was certainly hoping it would be a couple more years, but I'm not surprised.

What I find especially funny is that the same folks that incessantly worried about "how do you fire Fred Hoiberg?" when he was hired are the same ones freaking out now. It turns out that was not the right question.

Talk about misreading a situation. He's not leaving to go to another school, he's leaving for the NBA.

This. I'm not going to say that's he some awful human being or he's screwing us but this picture of Fred Hoiberg with rainbows and sunshine in the background is something that has bugged me for awhile. He's going to do him. That's completely fine but I don't want to hear the "dream job" BS. Or at least I want to hear him say this isn't his dream job as he leaves because in that scenario, it obviously isn't.

It was brought up the other day but as it becomes more real, it is kind of funny that CPR likely had a chance to at least look into other jobs if not get one and he chose to stay. With the current situation that looks like it will end poorly for him. Meanwhile, the guy a lot of people thought would be just as, if not more loyal looks like he's leaving. Now, I realize that Hoibergs going to a great job at the highest level of coaching and Rhoads wasn't at that point. It's just that if CFH leaves, I hope like hell Rhoads has a good year and long sustained success. That's one thing, CFh has given me more reason to root hard for Rhoads because this fanbase really needs him to pull through next fall. After the last couple FB seasons and the way the past two basketball seasons have ended, this fanbase is about at its breaking point.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Why anyone would want to coach in the NBA is beyond me. I feel bad for coaches, I really do, handling the preferential treatment of star players from league/owners, balancing ego's of other players, star players looking at coaches with disdain, etc. I would have better luck teaching/motivating this bulldog how to play defense in the NBA than most players.

I'll disagree. It's the ultimate for a basketball coach to coach the best players in the world.

I don't understand this line of attack.

I'm not coaching basketball but I don't think you leave your dream job. Now, if he comes out and says "Hey, it wasn't what I thought it would be," I'm fine.

It was a dream of his to coach at ISU.

It was a dream of his to coach in the NBA.

Both of those things have been stated multiple times. I don't see why they can't be true. Something being a dream job doesn't mean that you are obligated to do it for the rest of your career.

Semantics I guess.

He was a once in a lifetime hire. We won't be able to repeat it. Smoking crack to think we'll strike lightning twice.

I just wish Fred would say something. His saying nothing for the past 3 weeks scares me the most.

Just depressing, but not ready to jump off the cliff yet. ;)

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

From the sounds of it if Hoiberg turns them down, we will see a "Thibs is our coach" statement (he could still get traded). If Thibs gets fired then you can almost bet that the Bulls got Hoiberg.

So we really want a statement from the Bulls, not Fred. Fred isn't going to publicly comment I'd guess.

The Bulls aren't going to fire Thibs and give him $9 mil unless 1) he steps down and takes the Pelicans job or 2) the Bulls get a commitment from Fred.

Fred could easily make the fact that he doesn't want the job public if that's what he really wanted. I could write up a statement in 15 minutes that wouldn't be improper at all.

The fact that we don't know means that he wants the job and can't "accept" it yet, has accepted it but nobody can say, or he still hasn't made up his mind. If he knows he's coming back next year (not what I believe) then he's doing it wrong. Fred doesn't do many things wrong.

We may be able to hire a really good coach who won't hamstring recruiting by constant NBA talk. It's a slim chance, of course.

At this point Fred staying, without long term affirmation of staying, may not be so good.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

More like the need of some fans to tear Fred down to make themselves feel a little better.

It's not tearing him down. It's reality. He always went on and on about all the great things about being in Ames and if he leaves, those things weren't enough to satisfy his ego and desires. That's fine and I'm not saying it makes him a bad person or less loyal to ISU. I'm just saying the reality is that when it came down to it, those things weren't the most important things to him. You can't argue any other way. Also, I take back the semantics thing. You get one dream job. Until we are an NBA team, they can't be the same thing.
