Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

He could still be undecided. I doubt it but it's possible.

In this day and age of electronic media, if has decided on taking the job, it would not be reported?
Its a race to get the story first, but at this moment in time, none of the connected guys with the NBA are reporting its a done deal. Nothing has been decided yet.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I think Travis Hines wrote a nice piece this afternoon as to why Iowa State is not being a bit more proactive in their approach. From a strategic standpoint it serves two purposes for Jamie Pollard (1) you let Fred Hoiberg know that he is one of the best coaches in the Big 12 and you pay him accordingly and (2) you keep the fan base from questioning if you did enough.

On a sidenote I would think that Iowa State (specifically the Cyclone Club) will see a significant jump in donations this year based upon Pollard's decision to up the donation level in virtually all donor sections in Hilton Coliseum. As a donor I will be fairly disappointed that I was forced to make that commitment only to see the AD (1) not put together a financial proposal to Fred that puts him in the Top 3 coaches in the Big 12 and (2) then hires a person with no head coaching experience for $850,000 a year.

If #Bulls make coaching change, Fred Hoiberg WOULD accept the job if it were offered, a source who spoke to Hoiberg told me this morning.

There is severe protocol breach here. If this was legit it would have been started in its own thread.

Maybe its not about money, maybe its about a guy who wants to take his skills head to head with some of the best coaches and players in the world.

Hines is comparing apples to oranges..

He works for Fox Sports.

Probably not a bad play if you're some random sportswriter that no one has heard of. Make a guess and if you're right, you gain some credibility and if you're wrong, you stay as someone no one has ever heard of. I suppose he could have an inside source, but it seems less likely than about a hundred other writers.

Going into a year in the top five in the country, I'm struggling to imagine a better situation he could possibly leave us in.

People believing that we are top 5 need to get this out of their head quickly.

Iowa State is NOT returning a TOP FIVE team next year. Are you kidding me? We have 1 player over 6-6 that can jump more than 2 inches off the ground. NO post depth. Several injuries in the guard court.

Well, I guess consensus too early top five by most major publications, but perhaps not by you.

So Iowa State is not disrespecting Fred Hoiberg by paying him less money than Scott Drew, Travis Ford, Lon Krueger, Shaka Smart, Bob Huggins and Bill Self? Fred is the 7th highest paid in the Big 12. I can understand being below Self, Huggins and maybe even Smart but Iowa State has the money from donors to move this from 2.2 million to 2.8 million.

I also agree with this, it will be an absolute waste if not only Fred leaves which i still think he then would have used ISU as a bit of a stepping stone but Pollard doesnt keep a major $$$ figure in mind and skip anything other than a big name/up and coming hire who weve all discussed several names we'd like to see IF fred leaves.

How about we agree that we'd all be sad and frustrated if he left.

I'll feel pretty bad for the players especially, such a blow at that age.

Still trying to be positive, but loyal sons forever true are used to having their cups in place.

So, we're all freaking out because some dude with zero cred tweeted that Hoiberg would leave if offered?

Seems to take a lot less to light the fuse on this board recently. It didn't get it's own thread, so I'm not sure how much more freaking out is going on than what was already happening.

Money isn't an issue. If you are hung up on that, get over it. If it were an issue, the money would be backed up to Hoibergs house. JP knows that's not what this is about and there's nothing saying he hasn't already put something together showing what he will do anyway even if it is pointless.

Agreed. His contract is set up for him to go to the NBA. Just a matter of when it happens
