Does the legacy of the "mayor" change after this?

I'm not sure about other fanatics but I grew up watching Fred and following his career. I had his jersey and wore it all the time. Twitter is buzzing tonight and seems like there could be fall out to his legacy with the way this whole offseason has played out. I'm interested on how this will play out to the fans and how this affects the "mayor" status. I guess time heals all wounds but the initial reaction has been about what is expected.

Of course it will affect his legacy. How can it not. It's a cross roads. It won't destroy his legacy, though. At least I don't think so. It has been a parade of bad news since the UAB loss, and this split keeps getting messier and messier. Next we'll learn he was putting out feelers to see if Self was leaving KU.

No way. We were lucky he chose to play here. Without him Loren Meyer and company might not have played here. Fred was and still is a great ambassador for ISU. I am just as frustrated by his silence and leaving and all of this.

Right now, I am more interested in the legacy of Georges, Naz, Monte, Jameel, Abdul, Matt, Deonte, Hallice, and whoever else might stay Iowa State Cyclones.

it is more of a what could have been than ruining anything he has done. He will have a good legacy here, but he had a chance to be our Izzo, Bo Ryan, or coach K. He could have been the only one to surpass Johnny's legacy. That won't happen now.

Doesn't change for me. The memories of the past 5 years will always be there and they were 95% positive.

It does for me if he leaves. I've always resented the many football/basketball coaches who used ISU as a spring board. In my mind, Hoiberg will be in the same group, and this from not only a former ISU grad but a Little Cyclone as well. Yes, he has the right to work where ever he wishes but the way he's leaving is diminishing what he has done for the program, day by uncertain day.

I can understand if he goes to the Bulls and even the T Wolves. But hearing he interviewed for the Magic job really hurts. That tells me he knew 5 years was his limit at ISU.

Is this even a question? Will it change the way his bio reads some day? Yes. Then it will change his legacy.

Obviously effects it. Hell he was on pace to be coaching in Hoiberg colliseum in 10 years. The question is will the fallout diminish or taint it. I don't think so.
