I have only skimmed the responses in this, so I apologize if my thoughts are repetitive.

First, I am thrilled that Prohm and TJ investigated Brady and decided he was worth a scholarship. All these armchair recruiting experts on CF drive me nuts - who are you to determine who should/should not get a scholarship to play for the Cyclones? Give the kid a chance to get in here and prove himself before you make a decision on his worth to the team!

Second, I'm sure others have mentioned this, but there are other examples of kids that were under-recruited for one reason or another that ultimately ended up contributing a great deal. Wes Johnson & Jared Homan are good ISU examples. Even Doug McDermott wasn't all that highly recruited as a Rivals 3-star out of high school. His own dad didn't think he was worthy of a power-5 scholarship offer at the time.

Celebrate that he has chosen to be a Cyclone, and give him a chance to surprise you.

Mega dittos... Can't stand how folks are already beating this kid to a pulp. At least let him come in, actually get assigned a locker, MAYBE take a few practices with the team before you pitchfork him and leave his head on Prohm's front door.

Welcome to ISU young man but please ignore a large part of the group that calls themselves "fans".

Off the grid
Half the posts in this thread are from people on my ignore list. It's a little difficult to read but better than if I was forced to read all the stupid.

Everyone's fanboying and lack of consideration for the value is scholarships makes me feel the same way.

Oh well.

Nobody is fan boying you just don't get how it works, you act like he was given a 4 year scholly. Curt and I both received athletic scholarships and get how it works especially for players on the fringe of scholarship level.

The thing I like about this pickup is that this kid sees it as a chance to show he can make it at a big school. Implicit in that is that if he can't he won't be here for 4 years. For this late in the year, there is upside here and a big body in practice, to review what others have said. If he's doing nothing, sitting on the bench after his sophomore year, then let's complain. I'm not saying he will ever contribute, but I don't think this is going to kill us. Let's see how recruiting progresses as time goes on.

I'll bet you $100 he's on scholarship for 2 years at least.

Ok so once again big deal. He is here to be servicable and if he develops into something more that is a huge plus. If he doesn't develop into something more he will be recruited over. It's really not that big of a deal.

If he is that means he has good potential and the gamble paid off. So you should be happy if you are that confident. Here is why you are wrong in presuming we will keep him for at least 2. On August 1st a new rule goes in place, any scholarship agreement must allow for them to complete 4 years unless cut for non athletic reasons. Any scholarship agreements issued before that date are subject to the old rules.

We will not renew his scholly if he doesn't show promise and he will transfer to a mid major. He wanted a high major shot and we are giving it to him. He is a legit prospect that got hurt with an injury that is iffy for a guy that has a very good vertical. He is worth a 1 year gamble at this point and the coaches will then decide if he is worth rolling the dice for another 3. But at this point it is no lose situation and a great move with the scholarship in my opinion. He would have walked on at Iowa or Wisconsin if we didn't offer imo and could have panned out there instead. He wanted his big boy shot. I hope he is here for year 2 because it means we have a contributer.

I'd rather bank the scholarship and use it on a player who is better. If you want a body for practice get a walkon.

Use it on an extra JUCO next year. Use it on a mid year transfer. Get another talented, P5 high school kid. Remain flexible. That's how Hoiberg did things and everyone agreed it was the best way to do things.

It's not a big deal though, no.

Somewhere in the U.S.
For all of you recruiting/coaching geniuses (cough-cough) out there .........face a just a little bit of reality. ISU lost a pretty good Juco transfer when they lost Williams. He appeared to be the perfect replacement for Hogue. Then, all of the Fred to the Bulls drama happened, and ISU's recruiting was dead for several weeks. By the time a new coach and staff was hired, the recruiting season was pretty much over.

Yet, even with a fantastic returning roster.......ISU still needed help, and some backup role players. In particular, they needed a big that at the very least might get some rebounds, be able to defend against another team's bigs, and maybe (as gravy) score a few inside buckets. (That is why Williams was recruited, and honestly, probably why he was the only player ISU still had coming in.) By this time, there was not a whole lot to pick from. Look at the transfer lists. Look at the unsigned high school players lists. With all of your wisdom, makes us your list of who you think ISU should have gone after that was going to provide the immediate help needed. I was just happy to see them get at least one more big, and the cherry on top is that he seems to be a well-above-average player.

I think it is great that they at least got a player who has some size, drew a little interest from some other P5 schools, and seems like a decent kid, plus he was rated the top player in Iowa by Iowa Prep Hoops. None of us know what he may or may not develop into........but some people that most of us consider pretty decent recruiters decided that he was worthy of a scholarship. Get over it and please stop acting like you know what is going to happen with Ernst. You don't have a clue........none of us do.

Now, be good ISU fans and welcome Brady to ISU. Save your childish, moronic opinions of him at least until he has played his first game (10 would be better) and of this staff until they have coached a game.

In the meantime, we will all be waiting for your lists of who you experts think ISU should have gotten instead. If you can't provide one.......then just shut up on this subject.

I don't see a big difference in getting a JUCO like Edozie (no offers except Minnesota who then pulled it) then getting a kid like Ernst who had some mid major offers and will either contribute or transfer out after a couple years IMO

I think he plays this year (unless we add another recruit) because we have very little depth down low. Might get 5-10 minutes when Niang or Mckay battle foul trouble.

Do you really think this guy will get minutes over Nader and Burton in that situation. I think he'd play in the non conference, but Daniel Edozie played in the non conference too.

It's pretty worthless fretting about what recruiting should have been like. Time machines don't exist. Grabbing a mid-major quality post player, especially this late in the recruiting season, especially with the number of open scholarships next year, to be available in case Niang and McKay have to sit at the same time is way better than hoping for a decent walk-on or last second transfer.

Godfrey would have been really good if his head was on straight. Not sure you can lump Okoro (a great kid with very little talent), in with Godfry (talented kid who didn't take the game seriously) in together.

But your point stands, that everyone has to bring in some head scratchers, and it's foolish to think we're going to land over 5 really good contributors next year.
