again another prime example of ISU "fans" forgetting recruits and signings read these boards. We pride ourselves on being great fans, but we forget to show it.

CF way of toughening up these young athletes. They have the shoulders we supply the chips.

Welcome to ISU Brady. To all the whiny ******* on this thread if you think you can do better try walking on this fall.
It's so dumb when people say this. That's like telling someone to run for president because they complained or criticized Bush or Obama.

I'll bet he could contribute at least what we got out of Daniel Edozie the last couple years. Physically he's not the same beast, but I'll bet he gets up to 235-245 by the time he sees the court regularly.

People are gonna hate this comparison, but I see a lot of Ryan Spangler in him. Good hops, serviceable back to the basket moves, dunks hard, and probably somewhat limited offensively. Let's just hope he doesn't also do the annoying scream after a block or dunk.

A 6'8" guy with some offensive ability and defensive potential. He won't crack our rotation this year so he should definitely redshirt. Not sure why he isn't going to. It's June, and with the greek's scholarship up in the air we could've been short 3 practice bodies. For that reason alone I like the addition. Save the last 1 (or 2) for a mid year transfer that way we don't run into another McKay situation where he has to pay for a semester.

Our recruiting has been laughable the last 1.5 years given the on-court success and publicity. Not exactly the level you hoped the new staff would have connections to and bring in. Sigh. Fred should have jumped in March 2014.

Did the kid from Norwalk at the CCL have plans?

You're pretty ridiculous.

He's going to not play at all this year, and then maybe play a little next year and then a lot the next year, in an ideal world, right?

So that's at least 2 and maybe 3 year of scholarships taken up for nothing if he doesn't pan out.

Players not being good is a big deal no matter how you slice it. It's an opportunity cost.

If he ends up laying a lot, how is that a waste of a scholarship?

I don't agree at all.

Bank the scholarship and use it on whoever you want. An impact transfer, a JUCO, another high school guy, whatever.

This kid is going to sit on the bench this year, maybe play some next year if we are lucky? And maybe get decent minutes his JR year. There's no reason to spend the scholly unless TJ think's he's a legit player.

Prohm's talk about finding a practice body concerns me and it's (of course) absurd to waste a scholarship on a guy just for a practice body. That is inarguable.

You are saying its a waste for this kid to be on scholarship if he doesn't play at all this year, but we should give it to a transfer who has to sit out next year and tie up a scholarship despite not being able to play. Think about that for a second.

Pretty sure they didn't give him an offer just to have a body on the bench. They feel like he can actually help the team.

Here nor there
You're pretty ridiculous.
Sorry to ruin your fairytale perception with reality.

Don't worry, the good news is this signing is not really an indictment of Prohm and Co. Sure, it would have been nice for them to pull in some surprises, and IMO the ability to do so considered in the hiring process, but ultimately this situation falls on Fred and Co (as will much of the struggles the next two years). Ernst being the best option is telling of how poor our recruiting has been the past 1.5 years.

I don't know what all of you were expecting to get in late June. There simply isn't much available for for big men that can play this coming season. There is no immediately eligible big man transfer available that averaged more than 2 points last season. We needed a big body in emergency situations.

I would love a Spangler type, so I love that comparison. He's the kind of guy you love when he is on your team, hate when he plays against you. I think some of our opponents felt the same about Niang though they are different type of players.

I think he plays this year (unless we add another recruit) because we have very little depth down low. Might get 5-10 minutes when Niang or Mckay battle foul trouble.

Not sure what to think of this? Why use up a schollie on a walk-on level player?

I think Ashton easily deserves a schollie if Ernst is getting one.

I hope Ernst understands going in that if he doesn't pan out that he could get his scholarship yanked?

Ashton doesn't deserve a scholarship.

Short and stupid response is stupid, which is par for the course for you here!!

Short so you could understand...which you didn't.

So many people on here are smarter than our coach somehow.

We've got tons of scholarships and this a risk worth taking. Of course he may not pan out but every class has guys like that.

To the people that don't like using a scholarship on him. Just curious what you would have done with the scholarship? I don't see the point in banking it as we still have 1 (maybe 2 if the Greek doesn't return) to bank, we were a little short on frontline depth, and we will have plenty of scholarships open next year to fill with top end talent. I guess I'm just not seeing any downside to this.
