Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

So confused. Do we have a good guy? Is it Leath? JP? Hines? Is he is Chicago? Is it all part of a complicated Branstad/Rastetter/BOR/AIB Iowa City plot to destroy Iowa State?

I think its a small time attempt to make something really lame into something "controversial". Usually when only one side is talking, and they know they won't get a response from the other, they really trump up the rhetoric. Other than that, I can't figure out the point of even writing this article except hines is getting paid a salary and has to come up with something.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Unfortunately, having been a fan of ISU since 1970, this just seems so typical of ISU.......a school on the verge of possibly (maybe even likely) the best MBB season it has ever had......and an article like this comes out. It seems ISU fans just cannot have nice things.

I think this is article isn't necessarily an awful thing to have happened. It's an opportunity to clean things up and ensure we give our coaches and student athletes the respect they deserve

I would bet good money on this happening, and I would be happy about it. That guy never fails, at anything. Born winner.

Does Pollard even make 250 grand, why the **** would Fred want to make 250 grand? This is so stupid. AD now I have heard it all. Try NBA GM, they make a couple of bucks more than that.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

It doesn't really matter what the actual deal was with the hotel rooms/ball room......so for everyone trying to make it out like it was not such a big deal, or is exaggerated in the story......it doesn't matter. People outside ISU will read a whole lot more into than even ISU fans, and won't analyze it or try to justify it to the degree that we might. They will just see the ISU administration as being cheap.....even with one of the most successful programs they have had in years....case in point, look at this re-tweet by Andy Katz.....probably one of the most respected journalists involved with MBB.....then try an convince us this is no big deal.

According to this article, from 2013.....JP was the third highest paid AD in the Big 12.......at slightly more than 250K.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

The whole "Pollard jealous of Hoiberg's popularity" thing makes me think back to the Big XII Tourney when Pollard showed a message on the jumbo screen after his surgery. Fans went crazy and he was later in tears about it...almost like he was thinking "they love love me, they really love me."
This whole thing sanderson, kindler, and hoiberg thing pisses me off. I hope Leath steps in and has a talk with Pollard.

If anything, this article makes the story re: Pollard wanting to go cheap and hire Otzelberger until Leath came in and made him run a real search more plausible. I didn't believe it before but now I'm not sure.

THIS X100. All of us, myself included, were originally questioning Leaths involvement in the coach search. Seems like it may have been very warranted now.

That right there is why the article seems "off". Hines intentionally made it seem like they spent the night in the hotel ballroom to save money. And that is clearly 100% not the case. Post checkout after their last night they slept off some hangovers in a hotel ballroom while waiting to go to the airport for their flight. Huge, huge, huge difference. But Hines did it for clickbait.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

imo, Hoiberg was JP's signature hire and the most successful accomplishment of his tenure, including the facilities enhancement. I can't see Fred acting as a prima donna and from that I would have assumed JP's daily job concern was how to keep Fred happy and employed at ISU.

So much for getting some of the big basketball recruits that we were in on. Our "mistreatment" of our players is going national.
