Oct a huge month for NBA coaches as exhibition games start later in the month. I doubt Fred will be around to comment on this article

Ummm he was just on KXNO and said the article is false. Backed up exactly what Jamie said on KXNO.

Yep - I am 100% sure Hines could find some sources to spew crap. Especially anonymous.

100% sure JP and CFH did not see eye to eye on everything. To expect so is to be a fool.

100% sure CFH would not take the immediate time to refute the general gist of the "story" if he did not feel it was a BS move.

100% laughing at the people that swallowed this hook, line and sinker and sharpened up the JP pitchforks.

100% pleased their posts are recorded here for posterity. So much humor.

Reminds me of young millennials who believe every article or so-called expert commenting on climate change. They're in lock-step.....end of discussion. lmao

Does Gary Barta now tell tournaments that ISU won't pony up the cash for 5 hours of room time?

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

What truth though? We have no idea what is true and what is not, except we know they were not forced to sleep in a hotel ball room. JP told the radio people how to dispute most of the other claims made and Fred came on and backed him up, so what truth was there in the article that we know for sure was true?

So you think it was a lie that they took naps while waiting all those ours in the ballroom?

Hoiberg said he respects JP and that he wasn't the reason he left. He didn't shoot down the article, and of course he isn't going to say that JP could have done more to keep him. It's it's in the past and there's no going back, Fred isn't the type of guy to cause drama.

The players had to take a red-eye flight?!

FIRE EVERYONE!!!

Let's be rational here. The only substance in this article (beyond claims from unnamed sources): is that the players took a red-eye flight. This is click bait. A hotel at the Ritz that night wouldn't have kept Hoiberg in Ames. JP deserves better than to be thrown under the bus for this one-time event that Hines is trying to spin into a story.

The fact that he took time to publically address it is enough for me. It's the action he took that he didn't need to.

I think the fact that he came on just shows that he loves ISU. Whether the article is true or not, Fred's best response is probably to deny everything. In any case. He's Fred Hoiberg. He always gets the benefit of doubt. Hines doesn't. JP doesn't.

Travis is too good of a journalist for everything in that story to be wrong. So I believe what he reported until proven otherwise. JP going on the radio to shoot it down doesn't make me think twice about that. Fred going on the radio to shoot it down does.

Probably drops it in his locker room letters.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Paper that is losing readers weekly and need to stimulate discussion on the edge, those in the know or just listened to CFH knew his goal was NBA and coaching at highest level. Both did a great job on 1460 KXNO to squash 99% of what was printed. Interesting is (and I've refrained to using this trump card), I'm fortunate to be closer to inside than ave Joe Public Fan of ISU MBB and at Hawaii tourn there was early checkout as mentioned and aprox. 5-7 hours of putting bags in a room, but with exception of few everyone else was at pool or lounging around and who wouldn't, IT'S HAWAII.

I think you mean quash not squash. Actually he stated that ISU was his dream job and that his goal was to win championships at ISU. But looks like he learned he wasn't going to get the kind of support he needed for the basketball program to make that possible. If his dream was the NBA from day one then why not take the Warriors Job? Why take a job with an aging roster and an oft injured former superstar?

Pollard acting like it would cost that much money for late checkout just goes to show he is lying. At the same time he is one of the highest paid ADs. If there wasn't a pattern with Pollard he might be believable.
And the point of the article wasn't to say the hotel was the biggest deal but that it was a lot of little things that kept adding up, that being one example of how Pollard was really cheap with the program.
Fred would never say it publicly that he ever had any problem with How the athletic department did things.
Even with Palo he never said anything but it seems pretty well known he was upset with what happened.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Really liked Pollard going on KXNO. Plenty of ADs would have had no comment other than to issue a polished statement from behind closed doors. JP just picked up the phone and had nothing to hide. I'm inclined to believe him.

I'm starting to think also that Hines may have said "close to double-digit sources" instead of listing a number because it's obvious Pollard already knows who most if not all of the sources were and Hines was allowing them a little plausible deniability this way. CW or somebody should try to get a (non-anonymous) comment from Cornell Mann on this story...

The worst thing about this story - even if the animosity is true - is the falsehoods that recruits and others will read. "ISU made players sleep on the floor of a ballroom" has been tweeted by major media figures while the reality is that check-out time was noon and the flight was at 6:00 so the players had time to kill, maybe by napping in the ballroom. Completely different situation but 99% of those who saw the first phrase will not see the second.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I would assume that means 8 or 9.

yeah, that's really what Hines wanted you to think with the wording.

But with the exaggeration of the hotel story, "nearly double digits" probably means 1.

Fred said the WENT SWIMMING. HOW horrible to go for a swim in hawaii before a flight.

Or is Fred a liar?

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

My already low opinion of Jamie Pollard dropped even lower, into the gutter.

Say what you want about JP, but for me, he let two unacceptable things happen:

1.Let Cael Sanderson leave ames

2. Let Fred Hoiberg leave ames

There was a lot of talk of this same kind of behavior when Cael left Ames. Not a good thing for your AD to be known for.

3. Let KJ Kindler leave Ames. Great gymnastics coach, Cyclone alum, and hot.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

But using 100% anonymous sources on a story is pretty worthless in my opinion. It gives the story no teeth, although I guess we've seen gullible people will believe anything especially when they are looking for any excuse to pile on the get rid of Pollard bandwagon.

This post is just stupid. You protect your source or you lose your source. Named sources have too much to lose by speaking out.

He did contact JP, who's reaction made it all the more plausible for him to publish it. Then JP back tracks on the radio and takes shots at Hines.

Oh...so you were present to see that reaction, huh?

My Lord.... :/

Remember Wayne Morgan and the non-existent D1 scandal media "exposure" that Pollard used to fire him?
I was around Wayne's new batch of assistants hired prior to his final season. Not impressed....that among other things

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

This may be the most underhanded, wreckless, and irresponsible article I have ever seen published without one credible source willing to add validity to any perceived statements.
