It had nothing to do with the actual contract. Listen to what Keith said about it during the Hines interview. He said he KNEW that the way that contract was used and portrayed to people (including students) by the AD irked Fred. So is Keith the new Hines now? Because I believe Keith and I doubt Keith said that if Fred or someone with the last name of Hoiberg hadn't told him that. It wasn't about the contract details, it was about the way that the contract was being leveraged by the AD to the Cyclone community.

Even after this piece of crap Hines article, I would believe him before Keith Murphy.

What did he expect? That money has to come from somewhere. I actually have a problem with Fred there. If you want to demand more money that's fine. Fred wanted a raise but didn't want the fans to know he wanted a raise. Fred also wanted to be in the NBA but didn't want the fans to think he wanted to be in the NBA until he was. He wanted to continue to be the hometown golden boy while getting his.

A lot of an ADs job is to say no. Someone has to. If they don't, money is spent recklessly. Now, I don't think giving Fred a raise was reckless or wrong but at some point, at ISU, someone has to pay for that. We struggle to keep up the way it is and when we are balanced every year, there is no slush fund to pull raises from.

Congrats man, you're awesome. So are you saying that Keith Murphy is now also lying?

Thanks. Here is the quote from my post, just so you can be reminded how awesome I truly am:

They didn't spend a night in the ball room, the article states that they slept in the ball room for hours (whatever that means) I assume after check-out time and before they were coming back home to avoid being charged for another day of stay, which is not unreasonable at all. We are probably talking about a time frame after 10 or 11 AM check out.

Not sure what to think of the rest of the article. If true, Pollard has some things to work on. Seeing how the above situation was sensationalized by the author, I am having a harder time believing the rest of the article is 100% and not sensationalized.

Not sure what Murph heard, who he heard it from, etc. Don't care either - he isn't the one that wrote a junk article that trashed our athletic department.

When I finally had a chance to listen to all the interviews, this is the part that I can't believe anyone is mentioning. Keith Murphy corroborated the gist of the story! He said he had also heard things about the tension between the team and JP well before the story was published but just didn't have quite enough to do a story on it. At first, I thought Hines's story was kinda BS, but between hearing Keith provide his own evidence in support of the article, and hearing how patronizing and defensive JP is in his interviews, I'm thinking there's more to it than I first thought.

I guess the good news is that I don't think this will effect recruiting. It's petty in-fighting between the AD and the coach about feelings getting hurt. I don't think players really care.

I've always kinda thought this about Fred. He wants all of these raises and wants to go to the NBA but shies away from admitting this in public so he can keep his rep as the golden boy in Ames who is coaching there just because he loves ISU so much. Just like every coach, I don't care that Fred wants to get paid and go the NBA, but just own up to it.

I get around
I'm guessing the ballroom exaggeration is whatever former staff person had to watch the guys luggage in a ballroom in Hawaii while they went swimming with the Hoiberg twins.

Someone said Hawks own the Ames Tribune. Not sure if that is true or not.

Could people please quit quoting Tuco? Why the heck couldn't his ban have stuck instead of letting him continually troll under a new username?

I said that in jest. However, actually who owns the Ames Tribune is even worse. It's a New York hedge fund that has a very shady past. They have a history of bankruptcies, screwing shareholders, and "publish" yellow page books, pamphlets, free "newspapers", advertising flyers, etc. The kind of stuff that you find laying in your driveway and immediately toss into the recycling bin.

Huh? This is in regards to the contract that Fred actually GOT. AFTER Pollard gave it to him.

This whole thing wreaks of damage control. The whole situation sounds a lot like myself and my own immediate supervisor. Young buck comes in and has immediate success and some popularity. Jealousy is a stinky cologne.

Yeah. Fred wanted his money but didn't want the fans to see the ticket increase and say gee, the extra $500 I spent on season tix went right to Fred's pocket. Fred wanted the money and still wanted to be the good ole golden hometown boy and not have the NEED to raise prices be pinned on his salary increase. He wanted it both ways and that's just hard to do.

The thing is, I don't think anyone thinks Hines is blatantly making all of this up. He heard it from others that probably are stretching the facts because they have an ax to grind. It's very possible and most likely that Keith heard this from these same people either directly or somewhere down the line.

This I don't get at all.....why would JP be jealous of Fred? Fred doing good made JP look like a genius.

To be fair, I'm sure nearly all people in the world are jealous of Fred whether they let it affect their lives or not.
