Move past the boxscore.

1 well-played quarter against UNI, 2 against Iowa, and being generous, 2 against KU. Toledo was a complete game of keystone cops. Give CPR credit, he recruited well enough to get enough talent that allows inept play to statistically romp a ranked team and beat a FCS squad and a historically bad P5 team.

I guess I'm one of the few here who thinks the OP was making fun of sunshine pumpers. The post has everything -- young and inexperienced, improved compared to last year (which doesn't take much), and don't measure success based on wins and losses.

Here's my problem with this thread.

The OP - if you agree with him or not - has just as much of a right to post a positive thread as you guys do negative ones. He's optimistic about the rest of the season. That's awesome. Just because he's positive, why does he (or anyone else for that matter) have to get blasted for it?

It's problem I see on here quite a bit. My guess is that it keeps some folks who aren't all about pitchforks from posting more often too.

I know this won't change anything but it's something I've been pondering for a while now. Carry on.

This team is better than I thought. I know we beat UNI (and should have) and beat a horrible Kansas team. But....
1. We are putting up some points this year.
2. We are doing some different stuff on offense, like formations and misdirection stuff.
3. Our defense is way better than we were last year.
I know we lost 2 games that we didnt want to lose, but the Hawks are tough this year and Toledo is better than first thought.
Just think how young and inexperienced we still are, we will only getting better and I expect us to knock a few off. I think we will be pretty darn good next year.
I think we harmfully measure success in wins, but this team has gotten a ton better from last year and from week 1. We are Iowa State guys, not Alabama!! we can't expect awesome years every year. Baby steps, baby steps. We ARE improved!!!

Agree with everything here, but I'm still disappointed in the in game coaching decisions.....example not centering the ball for the fg vs Toledo

This team is doing better, it's just mental challenges from CPR that frustrate me because the team is not physically capable of over coming stupidity from the coaches.

This post ought to be made when someone starts a negative thread and gets blasted for it.

I can't get back on the hype train until we win some games we aren't supposed to. We win at Tech as 11.5 point underdogs? then yeah, the ****** can be re-written. Unfortunately, I just see us losing by a touchdown with about 3-4 chances that could have won it for us.

Agreed lets just see how we do vs tech

And to the o.p. Im jealous of your optimism. Wish i could have that. With that said, lack of optimism as a cyclones fan during football season makes life alot easier.

To be fair, we are a routine FG away from being 3-1. And we were tied with Iowa under 3 minutes to play. It's not like we are really, really bad.

I don't see a bowl game in our future but we are way ahead of last year.

I will say if we made a ruitine fg vs Toledo we are 3-1 and if we had Warren playing like he is now vs iowa then we are 4-0

We are definitely a better football team than we were last year but we still have a long way to go to be competitive in the Big with anyone other than KSU, KU, and a really bad Texas team this year. We are not going to score enough points to keep games close against the other schools so our defense is going to have to really step up in he coming weeks. Hell even Texas can score alot of points when they want to, its just that their defense is bad.

Yeah, that's pretty much how the internet works. That's why nobody here is employed by the ISU Athletic Department.

Funny how many of the same people who don't want to hear the strength of schedule argument when discussing Rhoads' record, want to completely dismiss beating Kansas, because they are terrible.

That is a very good point.

So should we accept that beating Kansas was a big achievement and that our strength of schedule is so hard we won't win another game?

Kansas is the worst team in Big 12 history. I don't think any team has gone 0-12 since the Big 12 was formed. You have to be incredibly bad to do that. There is a reason people aren't getting wood over beating Kansas this year.

Problem is we have a tough schedule remaining and will not likely be favored at all. I suspect we will beat Texas (although even that is not a for sure thing), and if we get hot at the end of the year, could beat K-State and WVU, especially if those teams tank it in. We are unlikely to beat Tech, Okie, and OSU, and are not going to beat TCU or Baylor. So very unlikely to get to 5 wins, and extremely unlikely to get to 6 wins. Here is to trying. Hope we get hot. Even 4 wins might be hard. I think that Toledo game was the nail in the coffin for CPR. We win that game and we have a shot at 5 or 6 wins. If we get 4 wins, that will mean 3,2,and 4 wins in year 5,6,and 7 respectively. No coach can survive that. Vegas wouldn't even put odds on that.

We can't beat OSU but we can beat a team that needed to bungle a punt snap to lose to them and we could beat a team that almost beat them with their 6th QB of the year. I'd say that that's a pretty good example of the lack of critical thinking skills exhibited at cyclonefanatic.com.
