Seeing Lazard make that catch and watching Lanning throw it was a brief, refreshing respite from we've been watching for the last three years. For a short period, we looked like a real Big XII team. Rhoads is just plain stubborn and he won't get out of the way and today's statement proves it.

There was enough ISU talent on that field to make the game competitive Saturday night. Feel really bad for all those kids on that sideline.

But if Rhoads is scaring Richardson from throwing touchdown passes maybe the problem isn't with Richardson. This is the wrong quote. Maybe pollard told him his job isn't on the line.
Sounds like a coach scared that he may have to bench the guy he's been backing as his guy all season long because his backup may actually outplay him. I don't recall hearing Hoiberg saying that one of his guys that made a big shot shouldn't have taken it. I swear, it's almost as if CPR took a coaching class from Ferentz in the offseason but Ferentz is the one laughing now because he's since thrown his textbook out after teaching the class and found out that not being the same predictable boring offense actually can give you a chance to win games.

I used to back Rhoads and really wanted him to be the guy to sustain some success here but he's not coaching like a guy that knows his job is on the line. A guy that should know by now barring an unforeseen change of events where we win out our schedule or somewhere close to that he's probably getting fired yet he keeps sticking with the same game plans and strategy that have failed us all season. That 1st quarter against TCU was refreshing to see us actually try something new and see it work for the most part then all the sudden it was back to the same old crap that we've tried all season long with no success. Everyone sitting in the stands at Jack Trice or watching the game on TV knows it's time to give Lanning a shot because we have nothing to lose at this point and Sam has proven time and time again he can't win against Big 12 talent. I would much rather see us lose while trying to take some risks and doing things we haven't done thus far than to keep trotting the same crappy game strategy out there every game with the same results.

I bet they called a run play, but Lanning decided to pass. I always thought coaches admired a QB ability to make plays and decide what to do.

Agree. I bet CPR told Sam to go with what they had planned in the week and they will yank Joel for trying to ruin it. I swear we have a list of plays that we run in order and Joel jumped ahead 2 plays to the play that Sam was suppose to run. That's the only thing I can come up with to why we are always (stagnant) (Fred Hoiberg verbage) in the second half!!

I will say that I wouldn't have a problem with him saying this about a play that was covered well and there was some sort of weird bounce or something that happened and it went for a TD. The whole problem is that this particular play if never "open" or a "ball that should be thrown" from the traditional football view. That's what makes it so hard to stop. Covered the WR perfectly down the field? Great, but they still caught it because the WR knew it was being thrown and you didn't. This wasn't some skinny post the safety mistimed and it happened to sneak through. This thing is specifically used because it's impossible to cover without PI or a mistake on the offenses end.

I'm getting more ****** about his philosophy on this play as the day goes.

Maybe when Lanning threw the td pass cpr muttered u xxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx. You were sposed to throw an effing interception. Now our stupid fans will be happy. Little does he know we aren't as stupid as he thinks.

Its funny that I didn't even have to read the X's to know what you typed!! I say that all the time to Rhoads

I just watched the presser and it does not sound near as bad when he's talking. I'd suggest watching the presser before making judgement.

if (Jimlad.implied) then response="Well played!";

if (Serious) then response="Yes, it does sound just as bad when he is talking";

As I tweeted, Tech, TCU, and Baylor make that throw all game/every game with great success. We do it with great success, proceed to bench the QB the remainder of the game, and tell him it was a poor decision to throw the ball.

And you wonder why our offense, with nice talent, can't score more than 20 points a game.
I wish opposing coaches would bench their QB's. They make the same play against us all the time.

Worst case is it becomes a mediocre 'punt' if picked off, which will happen a couple of plays later anyway.

I went through 7 pages waiting for someone to point it out. Took until page 16 apparently. Lol

The comment was a direct compliment to Lazard. The follow up to this was something. To the effect of "anytime you throw it his way, it's a safe throw."

Doesn't change the fact that it's time for a new HC, but this is literally pages upon pages of people going off on nothing.

OK.

Did we also play Lanning after that? Or not punt from there territory? I hope both those are true as well. I'd feel a lot better about CPR then.:jimlad:

its cute how delusional our fans are. Herman isn't coming here. He's got s good thing going and he'll wait until Texas or an Oklahoma job opens up.

we will be lucky to get a low major head coach. Most likely we are looking at the equivalent of the genius who will lead Kansas to a 0-12 record.

I'm pretty sure a lot of coaches think rhat the problem is less "Rhoads" and more "Iowa state".

That genius played TTU better than we did by a long shot.

To me, this has nothing to do with Sam vs Lanning.

This has to do with recruiting a stud in Allen Lazard. A 6'5 beast. You recruit him to be a difference maker on your team. Well, he had single coverage, Lanning made the right read and let the STUD go make a play. He did and turned it into 6.

Instead of simply saying it was a great play by Lazard, he says it's a pass that shouldn't have been made. Why?
Silly football noobs. It's because Lazard was covered and the RB was the check down, he was at the line of scrimmage with no one within 10yds of him.

Here nor there
Richardson. It all comes back to Sam. Sit his worthless *** on the bench and all will be right with the world.

I'd love to hear what the CPR supporters have to say about this one.
I am no Rhoads supporter, but coaching up QBs does involve teaching between a good outcome and a good play. It was a great outcome and a great play by Lazard. A good play by Lanning? In good offenses with good players , that is a good play. We don't know yet if Lanning or Lazard execute that at a high enough rate, but let's hope they will with a new staff.
