From FootballScoop:

Iowa State: Per source, Toledo defensive line coach Eli Rasheed will join Matt Campbell at Iowa State following Toledo’s bowl game. We had previously heard from multiple sources that Toledo defensive coordinator Jon Heacock would come to Iowa State in the same capacity; but this morning sources tell us that Heacock continues to weigh options. Will update on Heacock once more is clear…

Is he bluffing? Only time will tell.

I hope we get Heacock, simply because the rest of the defensive staff is already hired and I'd rather have a DC who has had experience with the people under him or at least gets to choose who he works with rather than bringing in an outsider. He has decent experience too.

Was about to say more or less the same thing. Unless something has changed that massively in the past few hours I think he comes to Ames. Campbell basically did everything except confirm it was Heacock and guarantee that he was coming yesterday

unless he got a better offer, I don't know why he wouldn't

Yeah I'm kind of with you on this..... It sure would have been good to bring in some higher level OC and DC that were just not his buddies that he had at Toledo. I would sure hate to have repeat of chizik in what he brought here for assistants. Campbell has a way bigger budget to be going after bigger hires then a bunch of mid major's.... You only get one chance to make a great start and not work from behind and start over trying to bring in other coaches down the road if they flop. I have faith in what he has done so far but those two positions are way to important to be just giving those guys a shot on a bigger better job.

Can everyone please stop comparing this to Chizik! This is nothing like Chizik. These guys were winning and working together. Chizik brought together guys that sucked and were all friends. They weren't working together for 7 years before Iowa State. This is a staff of winners. This is just like what Jerry Kill did at Minnesota he brought his MAC staff to Minnesota and look where it lead them. Back to back 8 win season sounds nice to me. This isn't like Chizik it's like Jerry kill!

Respectfully, it is similar to Chizik. Doesn't mean the outcome will be the same.

It is only similar in that both head coaches were familiar with the guys they were hiring. That's pretty much where similarities stop.

Chizik wasn't a head coach, the guys he hired in weren't working for him already and the only guy he brought with him from Texas other than the S&C coach was Jeff Koonz whom wasn't even an on-field assistant at Texas (and maybe not even qualified to be one at ISU).

That being said, the Campbell tenure could go very similar to the Chizik one. I'm very doubtful about that, but you just never know.

Someone mentioned earlier that Heacock has a decent resume. I'm too lazy to look it up. Where else has he been?

Thank you! I was pretty sure there were only a couple people that Chizik had worked with before so I just went back and read the coach bios. I would say this is as an almost completely different situation. The biggest difference I see is already having the defined roles as opposed to having to be the boss to your friends, which can cause issues.

Jerry Kill didn't promote his o-line coach to be his OC ...... big difference. And b1g offenses are way different then the high scoring big 12 offenses are.

The highlights are that he was DC at Youngstown State when Tressel was Head Coach. Then he left to be DC at Indiana for a few years and came back to Youngstown and was DC again for 1 year and then became Head Coach when Tressel left for Ohio State.

Not bad. Not much experience stopping a Big 12 offense but at least he's been in charge of a defense before......unlike Wayne Bolt.

Apples and buicks IMHO. Chiz built a staff while CMC has built and worked continually with HIS staff for years. They know each other, they know the philosophy, they know their roles...

No comparison can be made.
