I guess you could ask is any Iowa player better than their counterpart at ISU.

Niang vs. Uthoff....Niang
McKay vs. Woodbury....McKay
Morris vs. Gessel....Morris
Thomas vs. Clemmons....Thomas
Nader vs. Jok....Maybe Jok, but not by much

as a team

6 recent head to head wins vs 1 recent head to head win: ISU

4NCAA recent bids vs 1 NCAA recent bid: ISU

4 recent NCAA wins vs 1 recent NCAA win: ISU

2 Conference tournament titles in the past 2 years vs getting bounced in conf tourney by horrible teams every single year: ISU

Basically the Iowa fans puffing their chest out here are pure amusement for us to laugh at.

Uthoff had 18 points in the 2nd half tonight vs Rutgers Uthoff's problem vs ISU mainly was the inability of Iowa's PGs to run a cohesive offense and get him the ball. He's likely more skilled offensively than Niang and has better shot blocking ability due to his length. Two completely different players though, so I'm not sure why we're trying to compare the two. I honestly don't think Niang is ISU's most valuable player this season anyways.
Pete Jok or Gessell may be MVP for Iowa also. Jok had 29 the other night and Gessell is the glue.

Team accomplishments over the last three seasons are completely irrelevant to who is playing better basketball this season. You realize that, right?

10 RPI team and 13 RPI team. 13 RPI team won head to head.

Yes, enjoy living in a moronic fantasy where one of those teams is much better than the other. I repeat that you're a moron if you're puffing your chest out that Iowa is somehow having a better year than ISU. The teams are very similar this year and ISU has been drastically better for the previous 4 years.

Lol. Cmon, man. Jok is better than anyone on either team not named Uthoff, Niang, or Morris.

No one is saying Iowa is much better than Iowa State. You are creating arguments that don't exist.

Also, Iowa would be favored over Iowa State on a neutral court. It seems like Vegas, AP voters, and computer rankings all agree that Iowa is a marginally better team than Iowa State. ISU winning by one point on their own home court does little to change that fact.

You're seriously going to use that argument after football season? Iowa fans pretended like Vegas didn't exist all fall

Uh, lifelong Iowa fans with jobs writing for ESPN are saying that. There's a lot of season left and memories are short.

There's no comparison between Niang's supporting cast and Uthoff's. Jok = Thomas and that's about it. Advantage ISU across the board. Saying Niang is better than Uthoff is like saying Emmitt Smith was better than Barry Sanders.

I have one Hawk fan telling me Jok = Thomas and another one telling me Jok is better than McKay, Nader and Thomas. Who to believe...hmmmm

It's Niang. Better offensive player and though his defense isn't as good he more than makes up with his intangibles.
Iowa is a really good team though this year with an emphasis on team. They aren't going to out talent anyone but that's ok. Iowa has peaked though bc I don't think they can play any better than they have and ISU is still getting better.

ISU knew that all they needed to do was shut Uthoff down, so that's what they focused everything on in the 2nd half. If Iowa went all in on shutting Niang down, they'd get killed by Monte, McKay, Nader, etc. If Niang had Uthoff's supporting cast his stats would be worse, if Uthoff had ISU's supporting cast, his stats would be better. The fact that as it stands their stats are basically even tells the story.

You're crazy if you don't think the defensive focus of every team ISU plays ist on Niang. That's rich.

I would say Jok and Thomas are pretty equal. Morris is much better than Gesell.
McKay is silghtly better than Woody. Nader is better than Clemons

Who is better? McKay? McKay is an overrated defensive player whose only offensive skill is catching alley-oops. Jok is certainly better than both Thomas and Nader.

Jok isn't in the same hemisphere as McKay. McKay was 3rd team all conference last year and is averaging 13.5 pts and 9.2 boards this year but yeah he's overrated. You're an idiot

With that large of a talent gap, one would think Iowa State would have the better record. Especially when Iowa has the tougher SOS. This thread has made my Friday! Thanks everyone!
