Did Fred mess up not taking Peter Jok?

I love Jok but this was a **** poor effort by Iowa. Defensive intensity was absolute garbage. They're looking like an entitled bunch of guys who are letting the # next to the Iowa name on the scoreboard get to them. Lazy effort tonight. Not good.

It's the ******* B10. You can be **** poor, lazy with garbage defensive effort. Chances are that your opponent will more lazy, more **** poor, with their defensive effort even more garbage.

All bias aside the top 6 teams in big12 and big10 are pretty similar. Both tough as hell

Are we the only school that would lay off a player for the reason we did on him? And would we really gotten in any trouble?
I actually thought Peter was fragile and wouldn't make it through college with out more injuries since he was often injured in high school. I love how the kid plays and wish we would have took him.

IMO, Fred Hoiberg was mentally and emotionally gone from ISU at least 1 year before he actually announced his departure. He, in my mind, is Cael Sanderson II!!! One would think that someone who had been so revered, honored, respected and promoted by his alma mater would have wanted to close out his career there strongly, but---sadly---that IS NOT what he did. I walked away from a lot of top recruits in his last two years which could have helped the current team significantly---because he was too busy focusing on his own self interests!!

If they are gonna be worth a damn next year he'll have to put up at least 20 next year.

I'd guess Jok averages 20 easily next year. Doing it now this year for the most part. Due to so many experienced seniors graduating, surely there's a dropoff, but not as bad as what you might think. Fran has a rotation juco (Jones) sitting out, go-to-guy Jok, Uhl is good, 4-star forward in Cook coming in, and his bench actually gets to play a lot (Wagner, Baer, Ellingsen, Williams) They'll need time to mesh but probably a tournament team because who sees Rutgers, Penn State, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Northwestern, etc. taking huge strides to pass them next yr.? I think the same people that questioned whether Fran developed players years ago, aren't singing that song anymore. Probably the same posters that said it was "unacceptable" for us to lose to Tech ever, then they go and win AT Baylor by 20 the next game. lol

Not getting Uthoff was the bigger miss

Wasn't he already committed to Wisc by the time Fred had much chance? Besides, his transfer options never did include us, that was him using us and Creighton.

You're putting way to much thought into this. He is just a former Cyclone basketball coach who is, at best, 3rd best of the bunch.

Uh, no.

They are going to struggle next season. I think you're right in that they will improve quite a bit throughout the year. But they are an NIT roster at best without a PG with any experience. Williams has played very little this season.

Jok would have been a great addition to the Clones, but as others have posted, Lefty Moore sent a couple too many texts, so Fred backed off, as he should have. I would really like to have Naz back, Hell I would like to have Percy or Dorsey Walker back to add some depth to the team. Jok has turned out to be a good player.

They will be down for sure next year, or at least I think they will. It is probably my fault they are good this year though, as I kind of ran some smack at my Hawkeye friends, telling them both teams were final 4 teams, only they would be in the NIT final 4.

Did we even want Jok at the time? I can't imagine Fred backing off for the little that Lefty did if he really wanted him.

Peter Jok is 0-3 vs. Iowa State. More than likely will be 0-4 by the end of his career. He would not have developed had he come to ISU he wouldn't have received minutes his freshman and soph season. I'll take Long and Thomas as our wings next year with Morris running the show.
