Culver's burgers are pretty good but I actually like there food that is not burgers better. Also, their fries leave something to be desired.
You have to request the fries to be "extra crispy". You'll thank me later.

I'm thinking CW is a shill . . . B-Bops must be a sponsor of his radio show . . . and Five Guys must be coming to a location that will compete with some other sponsor. There is no other reasonable explanation for his ranking of burger places.

Seriously, just as a burger, Five Guys is so much better than B-Bops. Five Guys is no bargain, so it may not be a good value, but it is a much better burger.

And "too many fries!" Now I've heard it all. That is like having too many home football games (with wins).
I'm an ISU and Vikings fan. This statement does not compute.

I like the burgers a lot, not a huge fan of the fries.

If I'm in Des Moines I'm more likely to go to Zombie Burger if I'm going to a burger joint.

Gotta get the cajun seasoning on the fries. It's basically jsut some store bought seasoning, but it is delicious.

Five guys is great if you're in the mood for a giant greasy burger, in a good way.

Only reason I like Smash is because of their Colorado Burger with Green Chiles on it, I think the burgers themselves are better at five guys.

Speaking of chain burger places, if you ever get a chance to go to Bad Daddy's you should go there. Not fast casual like Five Guys or In-n-out, but the sauce they use for fry dipping is amazing. It's like a bbq, poblano pepper mayo.

On the road...
Such an overrated burger place. It's greasy as **** and is nothing special whatsoever. Habit Burger, In-N-Out and Hopdoddy are much better.

I remember when it was a big deal when we got Whole Foods, Krispy Kreme, Smashburger, Pizza Ranch, etc. and now I never hear about anyone actually eating/shopping at these places.

The place that surprises me is Texas Roadhouse. I think their food is average at best but every day the are jam packed.

Location seems so important. Smashburger seems to be in that area where every restaurant within a 1/4 fails.

It seems that burger tastes vary.

I haven't had Whataburger since the late 90's but back then it was horrible with rubbery mystery meat.
Lots of people love Shorts in Iowa City. But for me, their fries are greasy, burgers tasteless, and buns blah.

As i have gotten older, I find that most restaurant food is pretty bad. I can make most things at home better, especially Mexican food. Pizza is the exception. I find that we now go out for the atmosphere, not the food, because the food will probably suck just about anywhere.

Every time we diverge into the burger wars I am surprised there isn't more love for The Counter. I guess I have only been to them in California but I think they are in quite a few places. They are pricey, but I love all the choices they provide for toppings.

Head-to-head taste test competition. No purchase necessary. Sitting in front of you is a Five Guys burger and a B-Bops burger. You can only eat one. Which one do you eat?

Freddy's is kind of pricey but it is good. It reminds me a lot of Steak N Shake's burgers and fries.

5 Guys isn't that expensive once you figure out that you just need to order a little cheeseburger versus a double and only one order of fries for 3 people.

Freddy's, Steak and Shake and 5 Guys are pretty interchangeable to me.

I ate at Fuddruckers in KC a couple weekends ago. I wasn't impressed. Considering I could have walked another 100 feet and eaten at 5 Guys for less money, they probably saw me for the last time.

How's Freddy's? I've never been there but one opened up nearby.

Pretty solid, definitely worth a shot. Their burgers remind me a bit of Culvers with the crispy edges, but the patties are thinner. They have super thin shoe string fries which are pretty good as well.
