Miller had his bad games? He had some of the worst starts I've ever seen in big 12 football. Truly mentally scarring stuff.
Not building Seeley up at all but Miller had what a handful of average football games in 4 years? Let's tap the breaks a bit.
Why do so many of us remember only the bad stuff about Miller? He deserves credit for doing the work and getting a lot better before his season-ending injury.
It also usually strikes me as quite unfair to blame the guy who was put in the position he was put in. It wasn't like there was an all-conference LB sitting on the sideline and Miller played over him. He was the best available -- blame that on the coaching staff for not recruiting if you must.
Harvey hasn't done much yet for all the hype and Seeley makes zero plays. He can communicate all day and that's great but if u can't make any plays when the ball is snapped it doesn't matter one bit.
Harris may not have done everything well but he hit people. That was evident again in the spring game when he was the only backer to make a hard tackle and did it more than once.
If Seeley lines up as a starter come football season then the evaluation ability of this staff just took a nose dive. The other staff played him too much but even they weren't that clueless.
I'd say nine tackles per game in those five starts shows he's not the worst LB to come through Iowa State, and that some people need to re-evaluate how they evaluate a player.
I agree, he's not the most athletic guy on the field, but he's in the right place when he's supposed to be, more times than not. I'll take someone that sticks to his assignment and plays smart over someone that hits hard every day. If I can have someone that plays smart and hits hard even better (Cotton-Moya).
Seeley played in 11 games and made two tackles as a freshman. Last season he appeared in all 12 games, starting the final five at the inside, or “Mike†linebacker position. He made 52 total tackles and one for a loss. In his five starts he made 45 tackles, including 13 (nine solo) against Kansas, nine against Oklahoma and nine against TCU, while also forcing a fumble against the Horned Frogs.
Seeley is also an Academic a All Conf kid..He's not the most athletic and the kid has only really played LB half a year..take some time...let's not be so quick to judge to say he's the worst LB we've had..I've seen a lot worse come thru that tunnel that never even saw the field.
If Seeley starts it's because we have nobody better and has nothing to do with the staff's ability to evaluate. These aren't their recruits they're playing with this season
Exactly...to say if he starts, the coaching staff can't evaluate is just ridiculous.
My original statement stands. I'll take a guy that can actually understand a playbook and stay in position over a guy that can hit hard any day. From what Heacock has said in the past, he wants football smart guys that stick to his plan. If someone else stepped up and made the number of snaps Harris was going to get smaller, then I guess he should have done what was needed to win that job.
I wish Harris the best of luck at his next school. Now it's up to the guys still here to do the job.

These aren't their recruits? I'm confused. I thought they recruited this class of incoming recruits that doesn't have a juco linebacker in it.
A linebacker that more than one fan could see we need? Yeah, it was obvious.
I guess you could make the argument they couldn't find one but then I didn't see any even listed as being recruited. That means they evaluated the talent on hand and determined they didn't need a juco backer.
Huge mistake. Huge.
My original statement stand's. I will take a guy that can actually make plays over one that can't any day.
So why was Jordan Harris beat out by a player who was a RS Freshman last year? We are playing a new defense this year. It is obvious that Jordan Harris was struggling and was inconsistent. Willie Harvey beat him out and so Jordan Harris decided to transfer rather than try to win his spot back.
So Jordan Harris lacked the confidence that he could win his job back or else Jordan Harris felt he was not confident in his abilities to adapt to the new defense. I am sorry to see Jordan Harris leave. IMO, he could have contributed to this team. Unfortunately, he did not want to try and earn his spot back and his playing time on the field as a Cyclone and preferred to move on.
You realize we had guys like Jordan Harris, Levi Peters, and Luke Knott among others... Right?
They knew two of those guys weren't coming back or should have. Harris is on them then?
I'm confused again. Was Harris going to help or not? Sounds like you believe he was but the staff doesnt.
Which again begs the question...why no juco backer. Harris is the only one of the three that wasn't hurt or a below average backer.
Again? Why no juco backer?
Just thinking out loud here but isn't it possible that are Are key and Harvey won't play at the same time? The 4-2-5 that TCU runs only has one "regular" LB and 1 guy more like Northrup. The LEO is more the the other LB with size...just wondering
