Just promise you won't be too mad when we make the tournament. There's a pretty much guaranteed loss somewhere in that format so chin up the whiners will get the last say on the season barring the miraculous.

This is an great example....

What are you talking about? Because I want a big man, I am actively rooting for us to miss the dance?

This is weird logic to me.

I'd say:
Jackson
Wigginton
Weiler-Babb
Young
Kasango

Long
Lewis
Lard
Carter

That is as of today. I do expect 1 post grad or JC player being added and starting/top 7 of the rotation. (possibly 2)

Jackson
Wigginton
Weiler-Babb
Young
Lard or grad transfer

With Long, Lewis and Juco/grad transfer off the bench. No Carter or Kasongo playing any meaningful minutes.

I disagree with that analogy.

We've been a consistent top 25 caliber program for the better part of the last 5 years. 5 (hopefully 6) straight Tourney appearances. We play at one of the most highly regarded venues in the country. There's no sugar coating that our big man recruiting has under-performed our overall program. Our hoops program in football terms would probably compare to FB programs like Iowa, Arkansas, Arizona State, Pitt, etc. Those schools can and do recruit some good DL. We can and should be able to recruit some decent bigs here.

Virtually every Power 5 school, and many mid-major programs have better big men than we do.
So do Iowa, Arkansas, ASU and Pitt bring in studs that contribute as FR on the DL and OL (outside of an outlier like Espenesa)? Or do they have to develop them? I think that is the comparison. Those schools need to bring in mid-level guys (Young, Lard, Carter, Kasongo) and develop them to play on the line their junior and senior years. Unfortunately, our stop gap until those guys develop didn't work out for this season, and those guys are still young or inexperienced for next season.

I can't figure out a different way to describe it. There's a vocal section of CF that is convinced and totally believes we won't win another game after every loss. That is the definition of an emo.

I'd argue you are your own definition of "emo" because there is not a single poster on this board that believes we won't win another game. And I think you know this.

Zach Brown was released from his Scholarship, in a mutual decision between him and St. Johns supposedly connected to his arrest last year. 7'1 and originally a 4* before the arrest. I say screw it and go get him.

Edit: I read more into his arrests and it seems like he was charged with Armed robbery and a handful of accounts of credit card fraud of over $100. Yeeeesh, maybe not so much.

all off season for line up threads.

who are the jucos we're currently after?

To partially answer your previous question, I don't think I've seen any reports of us offering any JUCO bigs. There was a report of us being interested in Shakur Juiston and another smallish PF type, but I don't recall the name.

"You got the wrong guy!" is a difficult defense strategy when you're 7'1"

Maybe after some Juco time without any trouble.

Oh great, St. John's released a big. So, now watch any decent juco guy we have maybe narrowed down to offer, or an upcoming grad transfer big, Matt swoops in and will be hot on the trail for the same guys. Sorry...just a lighthearted look at spring recruiting. Where's a Hogue when you need him???

Malik Dunbar is the other name you're thinking of. The other names that I've seen mentioned are Raynere Thornton, Jeremy Rodriguez, and one more that I can't remember.. dude was like 6'8" and really lanky with long dreads. The guy I can't remember was also my least favorite.

Rodriguez and Thornton would be the two I like best and there is another interesting guy out there that I've seen but not mentioned for us named Harrison Curry, no relation to Steph that I can tell.

I think we're more than likely in a holding pattern on offers to JUCOs to see if we can get a grad or immediately eligible transfer of a higher caliber first. I'd love to know the latest on guys like Epperson or even the dude that's rated a little higher than him on 247 Sandro Mamukelashvili who looks like a beast and less of a project. Also, Matur Maker's youtube videos look really good, I haven't heard if he'll just end up in the draft like his brother though. Would be a really left field, late spring signing but one can dream.

Thanks for all the info! I wouldn't think they'd be in a holding pattern waiting on grad transfers if they really liked a guy, especially with so many spots to fill. My guess is they're really trying to narrow it down to the 1 or 2 that they think can actually contribute. So so many juco big guys fail -- it's better to take HS guys if you're gonna take a project.

Exactly this.

If anything, I think there have been times were we tried to create a post game when it's not a strength of ours this year. We just don't have a post scorer. I'd rather see us use the paint as a way to swing the ball around quicker and get the defense chasing us and then looking to score if it's open.

The issue isn't post offense, it's post defense. We can be a very good team with our low post guy only scoring a handfull of points. What we can't have is the opponent post position scoring 25ppg and getting 12+rpg. That's what happened against TCU and KU. The difference, it was 1 TCU player and 2 KU players.

Grad transfers should be our plan B while JUCO (or HS players) should be our plan A. Reason being, we can actively recruit and scout JUCOs and HS players over the next two months.

I would bring in a JUCO scoring wing and a JUCO scoring post. Based on practice this spring, Prohm needs to answer a couple questions looking forward to the 2017/18 season:
  1. Will Jakoby Long play the role of 3 pt. shooter and shut down defender?
  2. Do we have at least 3 Big12 quality post players among Young, Lard, Carter and Kasonga?
If the answer is no to the respective questions, we then need to bring in grad transfer players in addition to the JUCO players at each position. Obviously, if we strike out recruiting JUCOs, the only option is grad transfers.

@PSAHoops: Stat corrections from last nights win over Redemption Christian Eric Ayala 26 points rather then 23. Alexis Yetna 13 points 16 rebounds

The kid has been referred to as a rebounding machine. His numbers certainly do not disprove that. Sign him up.

Sounds like a good plan... In the end I just want the most talented players though and if that is a Grad Transfer first then that should be where the scholarship goes to. Especially since they are likely to contribute right away over players coming from JC/HS due to the jump in opponent talent and age.
With 3 scholarships available I think we see a mix of all three. I would like to hold one open for a mid year transfer next Dec.
