What about the recruiting after OSU?

Very true. But it does pay to remember that was about the time the Big 12 was going down. I don’t think the potential end of the conference was the biggest factor, but I think it was one factor in recruiting.

To be honest, I really don't think that had anything to do with the players in that game. Tragic? Yes, but I highly doubt the football team was associated with two coaches of the women's basketball team.

And OSU started out fine in that game.

To me, what tips the scales is this: In the 82 times ISU and OU have played football against each other, the Cyclones have won 6 times.

That's six, as in 6. And that counts last Saturday.

Me too. Both were great. I think it is sort of silly to have to pick one. But I’m sure of us thought we’d never see an Oklahoma win.

On paper the OU game is better.
I still get chills watching highlights from the OSU game. Like others have said, being at that game touches the emotions a bit more.

Oklahoma and it shouldn't even be a question. Coming in to the game Iowa State had beaten Oklahoma 5 times in the history of the series...5 times. This has the possibility of moving the program forward in recruiting, etc far more than the win over Okie State.
This. I mean seriously folks 27 years...27 years. Top three team, in their house after not doing it for 23 years?!!! On top of that we have a staff that can actually take advantage in recruiting, acknowledged it was a great win but isn't satisfied with the win and wants more. A staff that sees it as a turning point not a pinnacle.

Easily OU

Sorry, I didn't see your thread. Also, I remember us being a finalist for the upset of the year at the ESPY's that year. I know this win is fresher in our minds, but the Okie St. win was a pretty big deal nationwide.

I think a part of the reason that was upset of the year was because OSU was sitting at 10 wins and zero loses, and on the edge of making the NC game after dominating every team in their path. OU beat OSU on the road, and to me based of the Baylor game, that game looks like more of a fluke than our win against them does.

OU is the better, but I enjoyed the OSU win more because I was there in person to see it.

I voted OSU.
It was the 6th W of the season, making the team bowl eligible.
It was Senior Night.
It was a Primetime Nationally televised game.
Knocked OSU out of BCS contention.
Ended the BCS.

However...ISU gained no momentum moving forward after that game losing the rest of their games that season.

The impact of the OU game will have to be revisited down the road.

Yeah, I'm surprised the lack of love 2011 oSu is getting. Storming the field was an amazing experience. JTS was electric!

I'm sure it was fantastic being in Norman but the oSu game was the sole game televised and basically blew up the BCS, add in that it was at night and it made for an epic game. All the tailgates firing back up after the game...it was truly great.

Both great wins. I think the OSU game gives people less good vibes because they instantly think Paul Rhoads. OU though was big time being on the road against #3, and a team I wasn't sure I'd ever see us beat. I really believe this win will be the start of something big. I thought that as well in 2011 so I guess you never know.

The plans crash argument in 2011 is just ridiculous. I'm really sure when they were up 24-7 in the 3rd quarter they started thinking about those coaches they probably barely knew and then started to give up the game.

Agree with others that OSU was an amazing game, and great to be able to see it in person. But OU because we still have a chance to build off this game. The Nebraska game and OSU game should have been the foundation for the next level, but their benefit was frittered away. Hopefully that won't happen with this OU win.

I hadn't even considered that the OSU game, arguably, ended an entire era of college football. Or it was at least the straw that broke the camels back. Seems like a pretty big impact to me.

Right being later in the year, it was too fresh for voters and Okie State got screwed. I still think they deserved in over Alabama.

It was hard to take OSU over Alabama. I'm sure SOS's were fairly similar, but 1 loss all year to an undefeated #1 LSU team in October isn't near as bad as 1 loss at the end of November to a 6-6 Iowa State team.

Oh I agree. It was an easy sell to take the team that lost more recent. OSU had better wins, but Alabama had the name plus the "rematch" factor.

OU because it's OU and we just haven't been able to beat them. Let me remind people that back in the 70's we had NE's number for 3 years and I was at one of those games at the "new" stadium. We tore down goal posts after one of those. That was pretty big, too. Big time thrill.

I was on cloud nine for a solid week after the OSU win--ISU was pretty marginal after that and into the next season. Granted, the losses were to good teams but they looked pretty bad in the bowl game and imo 2012 showed just where the program really wasn't.

I picked the OU win even though it's different--it was shocking and surprising but the potential has been there for this group and they essentially finally finished someone off. I need to see how the rest of the season plays out...if there's 3-4 more wins out there and any losses are close, this may be the most pivotal game in ISU history, which is more important.

That's being kind.
