Remember when players weren't so focused on image and had highlights voiced by god?

I long for that simple time

As a multiple year Joe Montana for 90s halloween, while watching the old NFL film VHS tapes with that narration, those 49er-esque uniforms would be a dream.

So the shoulder stripes were only worn that year for the Iowa game and Peach Bowl game?

Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed that! Thanks for sharing!

"After all was said and done in 1977 Iowa State had overturned 5 of its 7 opponents in the Big 8 Conference. The toughest and most competitive gridiron alliance in the United States"

John Facenda was amazing. More announcers need to bring back "Soph-a-more"

We should just go back to the '76-77 era gold. Those were arguably our best unis! isu uni 48.bret meyer.jpg

Do you guys think we should to revert back to a less yellow shade of gold, if we could? If so, maybe this is the time to do it, if we ever do. We have a new coach, and an improving program, one looking for an identity.

It is clear to me that a large number, possibly a majority of fans favor a less harsh gold? We are not using our gold pants (as of yet), no gold helmet (as of yet), hear way too often 'Ronald McDonald', and 'ketchup and mustard', other derogatory comments. Pretty obvious the current "gold" of our cardinal and gold isn't working?

We can make better choices. This includes alt logos, and our Team colors going forward. I was a fan of the current gold at times, but realize it is too strong most of the time, and we could have something better. I don't know if we will.

@amestoplease had it right, and largely had the colors right too. I am sure he and people like @Kagavi are quite frustrated then and now. I am as well. But what can we do about having them listen to us? It's been tried before. I trust designers like him and Kagavi more than the designers currently being used, or past ones. Sure would be nice if they could throw out 'feelers' and be more open to fan suggestions, before commiting to certain logo or uniform changes. I can understand why they do not, though do not always agree to their methodology. We can only hope that uniform changes next year will be widely accepted. After seeing recent alt cyclone, one wonders?

I'll use one of amestoplease past designs to illustrate what our cardinal and gold could look like (in addition to the above). And please, I've heard comments like, "don't like the 49er's" or "Boston College" look. We don't have to and won't look like them. We will look like the Cyclones, regardless of what color gold we choose. Do we want to continue w/ our current gold comments forever though, and more often than not feel like the current gold is just a little too strong/yellow? And we have a history of gold shade variations (Stapleton era, 1976 era come to mind). Are we stuck w/ the current gold forever? isu uni 27.jpg

I would love it if @CYCLNST8 would post that article again, about the history of our current cardinal and gold. I've read that, and appreciated reading it. I largely agreed w/ it in the past. But I've heard so many comments that suggest our fans don't really love our colors. I don't think we've quite gotten the gold right yet. The yellow/gold we use now is very strong, and often does not look the best in combination. Maybe we could have something better going forward, something most of us could agree on, good luck w/ that, ha.

Here is another from amestoplease isu uni 28.jpg , one from me (don't look at the design, just color only) Cy Uniforms 2017 k1a - r r y OrrCyclone hel Mild gold Gold trim No pant str.jpg , and one from me again using what is very close to our current color scheme Cy Uniforms 2017 j1a - r r y OrrCyclone hel Upd num Wh let Gold trim.jpg . Not sure what exact shade of gold would look best, but I don't think we'd get very many 'ketchup and mustard' comments on the first two, which I like best.

This makes me miss the Big 8. There has never been a more culturally and geographically aligned conference.

Gasp! We are repeating a combo!

Unless we were going to do the tornado and not I-State on the helmets?

OMG.... no! We better not ever see that ugly new tornado logo on our helmets again. We looked like crap, and played like crap.... and were laughed at across the country on social media.

Go ahead and put it on some shirts and stuff if you want, then people can choose whether or not they want to wear that thing.... but don't force us to look at it by putting it on any ISU teams' uniforms anywhere.

One great thing about this new logo is that it has given me a whole new love and appreciation for the I-State logo. Just keep going with that. It's 100x better.

If you want to have the actual school color on the uniforms, then yes.

But there have been plenty of other shades of Gold in the past.

Also, which gold?
  • The Pantone PMS 142 C of the University's official branding:
http://www.brandmarketing.iastate.edu/brand-elements/color-palette/
  • ...or the Pantone PMS 123 and 121 of the athletic dept standards?
https://apps-trademark.sws.iastate.edu/forms/athletics/data/708/isu_athletic_identity_usage.pdf

Point being, the shades of cardinal and gold have changed before and are currently varied.

Here is one more current cut-sheet, with the current primary, secondary (bucky and toilet cy, pre-bugle-nado), and vintage logos (and distinction between Cyclone and University Gold):

Just stop with "true" gold. Gawd. Let it go.

I bet the gold pants make their first appearance this weekend. Fingers crossed for g/w/g with red stencil logo.

I think you're right about the gold pants vs TxTech - 'gold rules' vs red raiders.

Not holding out hope for gold helmet (though if so, and with stencil may cause this thread to meltdown)...would vote white-white-gold if no gold helmet.
