Kempt sixth-year ... any day now

If Zeb was the starter against Iowa and (probably) Texas, we likely win those games. I don't care if Kempt doesn't fit the typical mold of a "successful" QB because like others have mentioned, the results speak for themselves.

QB play did not lose the Iowa game. There is absolutely no reason to think a different QB win that game. Our defense cost us the Iowa game.

Maybe win win the Texas game with Zeb, but really, it was the coaches forgetting that they had a running back on the team that cost us the game.

If Kempt comes back, they'll have a competition. I'd be crazy to just hand the job to Zeb because you are afraid he might transfer. If Zeb is the backup, thats not going to be the reason he would leave Iowa State. He would still have 2 years as the presumptive starter, just like he would if he transfers. If he transfers, its either because he just isn't happy at school or he hears footsteps from the younger QB and doesn't think he will ever start.

Our problem against Iowa was not Park. For God's sake, he threw for 350 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 pick. We couldn't stop them when we needed to. I may give you Texas, but also feel like in the losses down the stretch, we may have benefited from Park. While not all losses, we were terrible offensively against TCU, West Virginia, Baylor, K State and were pretty bad against Memphis, given how bad they were defensively. Without the play of our defense this year, the story of Kempt is much different.

Our offense wasn't great against Kansas either. We pretty much started at midfield the whole day and Kansas sucked. We punted 9 times and 5 of them were in the first half when the game was still a game. Our TD drives in the first half were 8 yards and 23 yards. Second have were 27, 35 and 56 yards.

Because the backup completed 55% of his passes and threw for 2 touchdowns and 1 pick against the 73 and 100th ranked defenses in the country in yards given up/game.

Noland might wind up being good. I sure hope so. But my goodness, thinking he's superior to Kempt based on what we've seen in crazy. Might wind up that way, but you can't say it definitively now.

I love Kempt and give him all the credit in the world, but people are saying he must be better than Zeb because the coaches started Kyle of Zeb. The coaches also said that decision was neck and neck. If the coaches think they are neck and neck, that doesn't mean Kempt is a guarenteed starter. Its entirely possible that Zeb improves slightly more than Kempt in the offseason and takes the lead.

It would be awesome if Kyle gets another year. That would eliminate a huge depth concern. That would give us two QBs that can win in the Big 12. Who starts and gives us the best chance to win, that is for the coaching staff to decide. There is absolutely no negative to having Kyle back. Competition makes everyone better.

Regardless of if he or Zeb earns the spot next year, nothing good can come of all the **** being thrown on Kempt for doing everything asked of him.

That's like saying Jerome Tiller beat Nebraska in Lincoln. Kyle was a good safe option that allowed our strengths on defense and in the receiver corps to win close games.

That pick was incredibly boneheaded and without that, we very likely win that game.

It was someone that wasn't suppose to be there stepping into a passing lane. Kempt had one returned for a TD that was way worse that that. Sorry the Iowa game was 100% on the defense. Letting a guy catch a screen pass and goes 50+ yard with 12 missed tackles. That after giving up a 3rd and 12 earlier. That interception was a bad turn of events, but ISU had a lot of chance to recover from that.

If he comes back next season and starts, I'm curious how an improved offensive line with improved running game changes his productivity.

I think most people who are arguing that Zeb will/might start next year are simply counting on improvement from him. It would be Kempt's sixth year, I don't think it's likely that he would improve a whole lot in the offseason. However, it would be Zeb's first full spring without an injury. I think it's reasonable to expect some improvement on his accuracy and overall handle of the offense. If that happens, he should and will be competing with Kempt for the starting spot.

I don't know why you wouldn't expect some improvement from Kempt. He literally had never played before. I would expect he could improve quite a bit.

I think our best chance to win will be with a more West coast style offense next year and I like Kempt to fill the QB spot in that scenario.

Noland has more upside but I'd take Kempt back in a heartbeat. I think its fair to say we saw pretty close to his ceiling this year but I'd take a consistent guy who doesn't make mistakes every season. With that said, I'll be confident this team can be just as competitive next year with either guy at QB.

His best qualities by far are already game management, accuracy, and decision making. Those would be the things most likely to improve, and I don't see how those can get a whole lot better from what they already are. I don't think his overall arm talent is going to suddenly get a whole lot better at this point. If it could, it probably would have already.

I think one of his weaknesses was that he telegraphed his throws---everyone knew where they were going. I think that sort of thing could improve. Plus, I don't think everyone realizes that he wasn't working with the starters much before Oklahoma. Working with the guys that he would play with would improve as well.

Didn't Nebraska lose 8 fumbles in that game, and we won 9-7? ISU's wins against OU, TCU and Memphis were nothing like that game. Those teams all had great offenses. We had to score and control the ball. Plus, Kempt didn't get much run support in the games against TCU and Memphis.

I get lost on that story. Seems like we heard TCU once, WVU once, and that the shoulder was hurt or finished off against OSU.
I have no idea is what all those words say. No idea at all.

He got hurt vs WV. Didn't practice much the next week and against OSU got pummeled when someone missed a block and reagrevated it. Frankly the dr was amazed he didn't break his collar bone.

Our offense was "great" in two games this year. Iowa and OSU. That's it. We were the 101st ranked rushing offense by S&P. That's awful considering we had one of the best running backs in the country who created the vast majority of his own yards. Passing was slightly better but still not what it needs to be. It's kind of weird how our schedule lined up and how often things just lined up for various results.
