There was a lot of that early on, but in the bowl game, those were straight up bad passes getting caught.

If Kempt was just still sore, that's a great explanation.

The wind was a ***** in that game. And Kyle was getting no protection. He was getting drilled on almost every pass.

.You also have to realize he did what he did without ever starting a game at the collegiate level before this year. He will only improve. There is no substitute for actual live game play.

If Zeb was the starter against Iowa and (probably) Texas, we likely win those games. I don't care if Kempt doesn't fit the typical mold of a "successful" QB because like others have mentioned, the results speak for themselves.

Our problem against Iowa was not Park. For God's sake, he threw for 350 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 pick. We couldn't stop them when we needed to. I may give you Texas, but also feel like in the losses down the stretch, we may have benefited from Park. While not all losses, we were terrible offensively against TCU, West Virginia, Baylor, K State and were pretty bad against Memphis, given how bad they were defensively. Without the play of our defense this year, the story of Kempt is much different.

From a pure football standpoint I’d love to have Kempt for another year. He is an older guy that can teach the young guys the game. I’d also love to have him as a backup in case Zeb gets hurt.

I worry about him getting it though with the fan base. People are not realistic about his actual abilities. He played about as well as you can expect him to this year. Maybe with the off-season he can work hard and improve a little bit but he is pretty much is what he is. In order to build on and sustain the amazing success from this year we need improved quarterback play specifically.

We can absolutely be thrilled with the results he brought us while recognizing the defense and receivers really were the difference this past year. We really have people saying he is the second best Qb in the Big 12 or he has a real chance in the NFL. That just isn’t realistic.

I don't think he's the second best QB in the conference or a legitimate NFL prospect, but he doesn't need to be. What he needs to do is execute the offense, not turn the ball over, and put his receivers in position to make plays. And he's very good at that. A just-ok QB can look good to great if you surround him with talent at the skill positions (check) and a solid o-line (fingers crossed).

As to the bolded part, I don't necessarily buy that. We're talking about a guy who never even played until this year, and has never gone into an offseason as anything other than an afterthought everywhere he's been. To think that he can't get significantly better with an offseason's worth of reps as the starter is shortchanging him. He played really well this season but like any QB seeing game action for the first time he probably left a lot of plays on the field due to inexperience. That stuff is going to happen with any first time starter whether they're 18 or 22.

That pick was incredibly boneheaded and without that, we very likely win that game.

I don't see how Kempt coming back would be a bad thing at all. It will be a competition for the job either way and if he beats out Zeb another year than he is probably a better player.

My solution ... (not realistic)

Start Kyle when the weather is good. He makes great, quick decisions and is accurate.
Start Zeb when the weather is cold and/or windy. Teams can really compress our offense if they think we don't have threat deeper than 20 yards. Zeb throws a tighter spiral in the wind.

That pick was a complete miracle play by the defense.

Yep. The kid made a hell of a play but when he got his arms up I don't think he had any hope of anything beyond getting a hand on it. With as much velocity as Park puts on the ball I'd bet nine times out of ten on that play the ball is harmlessly deflected or knocked down.

I disagree. If he didn't catch the ball, it literally would have him in the face mask. The LB was watching Park the entire time and he (Park) threw a bad ball.

He might have read Park, but it was a fastball directly at his face from about four yards away. I doubt he ever even saw the damn thing coming. Just threw up his hands and the ball stuck. Good read, lucky pick. **** happens.

That was a DE, not an LB. DE's don't often come across the middle of the field and throw their hands up to catch a rocketed timing throw from a QB.

That was a miracle.

I wonder how many of those on here hoping Kempt doesn't win his appeal were also angered by Park's loyalty turn quote. The kid gave us his all last year, led the team to its most successful season in years, and wants to come back again because he loves it so much. How the hell do you root against that? Good grief.
