Wondering this as well. There were a lot of names tossed around recently I didnt keep close tabs on but I feel like people wanted this guy or McKinney (sp)?

In my opinion, this wasn't a home-run or "best player available" situation, but a "good player that fits our needs perfectly" situation. We were in talks with some "better" players but we did not extend them any offers.
The only other guy I really would have wanted would have been Austin Reaves out of Wichita St.
I don’t even know how realstic he was in the first place, I just know we reached out to him and he shot 45% from 3.
You wonder if not getting some of the "high vis" transfers last year caused Prohm to go hard after the good, solid need transfer this year. Do you go after the big splash/high risk of turn down or the sold/low-medium risk of turn down?
He should fit right in as his picture shows him with a knee brace on already.....
Based on those highlights, he will definitely shoot better than 33% from 3 with our roster.
I think he is an okay pickup, but I do have a couple of concerns looking at his stats for the last 3 years. First, his assist/turnover ratio is below 1. That is terrible for a 3rd year point guard....and it is not like there has been a lot of improvement since his freshman year. Tinsley had a poor A/TO too, but at least it was above 1. The other concern is his shooting percentages. Hopefully, someone on the staff can help him with his shooting and improve those percentages. I think he will be a good pickup, but honestly, I think if Lindell does leave after this year, Tyrese will be the starting point with Nixon as the `back-up. Of course, Prohm will probably still be looking to recruit another pg for 2019.
If Lindell leave it will be a competition between Prentiss and Tyrese. I'd expect Nixon to improve red shirting and learning playing in Prohm's System. Ideally Tyrese will win it for the future of the program but we should discount Nixon with high level starting experience getting the nod.
I don't like limiting the ceiling of a player 2 years out, especially since the staff evaluated his game and thought he was worth 2 years of a roster spot. I doubt Prohm would do that if he envision a major role for Nixon next year.
Unless Nixon transforms into a 6'4 210 lb bulldog of a PG overnight, this seems far fetched.
This is a commit for Chicago more so than need.

Y'all will disagree and posture and huff and puff but he's Jeff Beverly - high usage and low efficiency. Confusingly has gotten worse throughout his career as well. KenPom/advanced metrics don't lie.
Yes, he is a good free throw shooter and appears to be a pesky defender. But he is not a point guard. Averages more turnovers than assists. Short. Poor shot selection.
Could he become more efficient with better teammates? Of course. There's also the clear benefit of sitting out and growing with the team. But those are unknowns. There's the Deandre Kane argument, but that's much more exception than rule. I'd compare Prentiss more to an Elijah Brown, who did about the same thing shooting percentage-wise at Oregon that he did at New Mexico - with exponentially better talent at Oregon.
At this point I would hope we'd be going after somebody who's more established and has better offers. To me this is driven purely by Chicago connection as the end goal; blind fanaticism isn't going to steer me in another direction. At some point, a player is what a player is. We have three years of stats supporting an argument that he's not Big 12 caliber.
Come back at me with stats, not righteous indignation based on fanaticism.

I would also like you to acknowledge the role he will be asked to fill. He’s not being asked to be a starter like Beverly had to.

If Wigginton leaves after next year as seems likely, we'll be left with THT, Lewis, Nixon and Haliburton as guards. Nixon would be starting in that situation, which would leave your "he's not being asked to be a starter like Beverly had to" irrelevant.
