I think you mentioned it before, but I don't think I've watched it. If you're into 70's horror movies and are a fan of David Cronenberg (Scanners, Videodrome) I would recommend Shivers. That one was pretty interesting and an innovative premise for a horror film at the time. Just don't watch with the kids.

Was that film also title "They Came From Within"? If so, I have seen that - about some promiscuous people who turned into flesh eaters, or some such thing. Cronenberg is one of my favorites, but I think sometimes his talents as a director aren't always up to the forcefulness of his ideas. "Scanners" was an exception, though.

Heard from Alana (daughter #3, the pediatrician in Seattle) Saturday night, apparently she is studying for her masters in public health. She said she wants to eventually be in research for child diseases. She makes ol' Dad pretty proud. (Not too much, though. Not a good idea to get too full of myself.) ;)

Finished the side job I's been working on for nearly 6 weeks - renovation of a huge, multi-level deck for some friends. It was treated wood, and rotten to the core. We replaced with PVC-capped composite decking to the tune of nearly $8,000....but they're very happy. My back is glad I'm done, all that bending over makes an old guy sore.

I have it all planned for our wedding anniversary on June 22 - going to make her a nice dinner (kung pao chicken), do a little dancing, give her a couple gifts. One is a trip on the dinner train at the Boone Valley Scenic Railway in October, she's been wanting to do this for a long time. Hopefully the colors will be awesome then. Also saved a few shekels and got her a nice diamond necklace.

These women, you know, they're our only hope. Without them we'd still be dragging our knuckles on the ground.

So my girlfriend lives in Baltimore, and just got into John Hopkins for education which is apparently a big deal. I'm thinking about sending flowers, ladies of RTT any suggestions? I'm also considering sending her a "New baby" arrangement at work, because I think it'd be funny.

Edible arrangements. Duh.

Not exactly sure.
@cyrocksmypants dont know why I didn’t think of this sooner. In the ISR boards, the biggest hawk troll is a dude from your hometown that is mid thirties. Probably an old classmate of yours. Should go interrogate him, he has a short fuse.

I've officially watched too much Dateline and murder mystery shows. Friday night one of my best friends calls me while she is driving home from the grocery store. She gets home and says she will call me back after she unloads. She doesn't call back.

Fast forward 20 hours and she sends me a text that she's sorry that her husband wanted to talk. Tells me they were arguing and things are stressful.

An hour later she texts me again to meet her at a bar that's about 10 minutes west of me that's kind of secluded by the lake. She lives about 45 minutes east of me so I thought it strange she would be there. We also haven't been to a bar together in 10 years when we were both in college. She keeps texting me to hurry up and get out bc she wanted to see me. "don't pay the cover" and "just meet them back behind the bar". Any time I've been to this particular bar there hasn't been too many people there and has never been a cover. It all seemed strange and I wasn't sure I was even talking to her.

I finally got close to the bar halfway expecting that I was lured out there to get murdered and buried where nobody would find me. Pulled in and there are a ton of cars. Nobody at the bar, but a band will be performing behind the building. I find my friend and it's apparent she's had a few. I guess her and her friend had been to a wine tasting and then came out to listen to her friend's dad's band. I am relieved I will not be killed tonight.

TL;DR Version
-friend and her husband have been arguing
- don't hear back from her for almost 24 hours after she said would call me back
-receive some out of character text messages and am invited to meet her at a suspicious location
-beginning to think my friend has been murdered by her husband and is luring me out to murder me
-turns out my friend is just drunk and I haven't been on the receiving end of drunk messages in a while.

Sidenote
Her husband and I get along well and hangout together without my friend being there. My Dateline background got the best of me.

dude, I would have thought the same thing! Good news is it sounds like you won't be an easy target for Dateline murderers.

I must admit that's my guilty weekend pleasure. And that was even before I've gotten all old and childful. Is that the opposite of childless? Childful? Childmore?

I had chased everyone out of my shared office for the past few months and it was great. One person wanted in because it would be quiet and I reminded their manager that I'm on the phone quite a bit now. True and also my countermeasure to keep them out. So I've lost the battle today and a new person is moving in. Overall it's ok because I actually was friends with them in college. But their manager (whom I find.....an incompetent blatherer) brings person in and is like here are noise cancelling headphones for when CG is on the phone (bit over the top, not like I'm screaming on the phone), or you can wait a couple months and she'll be out on maternity leave. You realize I'll be back, right?

Also, IT doesn't have new person's computer ready (I'm so shocked, shocked I say) so manager is just going to email them instead of calling. Meanwhile, new person is left to just sit here and chill for a couple hours. The nice part of me is like I should talk to them. I wonder how long before they too, figure out they have a less than great manager. I probably won't mention that their predecessor left because of said manager.

lol I thought about messaging my sister to tell her where I was going to be. It clearly didn't affect me as I flipped between Dumb and Dumber/Step Brothers and the ID channel all day yesterday.

Your weekend pleasure was luring people behind bars and murdering them?

now it's been like 40 minutes and I still haven't talked to them. It's gone on for too long now, the silence is permanent.

Which model/brand? Been looking at some Aztek square shouldered to replace my front steps and stoop that are old (and rotting out) redwood. Going to be a pain in the ass since it's currently 18" o.c. and designed for 1 1/2" thick planking.

Have you stared silently at them though?

dude, that would be creepy and invite interaction. I'm asserting my dominance. Also, there's a partial wall between us. I got that put in when I moved in for privacy aka, so the person sitting there couldn't see my screen/watch me pick my nose/fall asleep/whatever
