The guy has 3 personal foul penalties in two weeks. It's funny - we were so quick to defend him for his helmet-to-helmet hit last week, but he goes and does the same thing twice in the same drive again tonite. I liked how Chizik told him to hit the showers before the refs ejected him.

it was a cheap shot but kicking this kid off the team would be a huge mistake. this is obviously the way to do it but people are going to be scared to run/throw to his side because that kids lays the wood

Can't believe so many people are jumping off the LJ bandwagon. He's a true freshman. He will grow up and mature. Don't give up on LJ, he's a great talent. Rahshan Parker had that stupid personal foul in 06 @ Texas and he's grown up from that day. The same maturation process will happen with Leonard. I'm very happy to have that young man in Ames. He made a mistake tonight and he will pay for it.

We had more than one stupid foul tonight....:wideeyed::eek::dull:

I seriously doubt that - they'll go in his direction because it's a cheapo 15 yards tacked on to the play.

And I'm baffled at people not seeing this. Or the significantly negative impact on the game the previous PF penalty had.

Just crazy.

In our last 2 games, PF penalties played a major role in our losing the games. At what point will it be too much for some of you?

I see it loud and clear and I'm not disputing that it had a significant impact in the game. And like you said in another thread, 1 play isn't going to affect the outcome of the game.

I'm in total agreement with you that the PF penalties are really impacting us on the field and they need to be stopped. But, I however didn't see the play as him gunning for the QB only after he crossed the goal line. It was a very very stupid play and we all know he is gonna pay for it.

He will learn. I hope some of you meet him in person. He is very classy off of the field, and was raised well. So he gets a little riled up in a football game and lays the wood. Tell me you never have had the urge to lay someone out if they are giving you fits, even if it is on the sideline or in the endzone. Stupid? Yes. Never happened before, hell no.

He plays like Ellis Hobbs, With emotion, with intensity, and out of control right now. He will get it, dont throw him under the bus. Dont throw JJ Bass under the bus, Dont throw Wallace Franklin under the bus, (He is back for sure for KU game *4 game suspension*)

We didnt lose because of the personal fouls tonight.

He plays like Ellis Hobbs,

Please, don't compare him to Hobbs. I don't recall Ellis ever pulling this crap - from start to finish at ISU. These excuses that he's young, is really just a nice guy, etc - are all spin.

He made some dumb plays. He directly hurt his team's chances of winning. He should and will pay for it. I'll welcome him back when he gets back on the field, but he'll have a short leash.

Defending his actions at this point is quite silly.

im not condoning the hit i did not mean for it to sound that way but the idea that this is going to be a constant problem is hopefully wrong. i would rather have his intensity than some of the pathetic arm tackling we had in the past...Gene will take care of this

As per ncaa rules he is out for the kansas game already. I like the agression, just not after the play. Think about this guy as a senoir, experince under his belt, I think he will be a kick *** corner. He is young and apparently spirited. I like what he has to offer let them coach him he will be fine.

4 games - each containing plenty of PF penalties and the rate of which they are occurring is increasing. While I do expect this to get better, the actual trend suggest otherwise.

that would be ******** to kick someone off the team for a couple personal fouls, most of them he was just being aggressive, but i agree the 2nd one was just a dumb play, i bet he is gonna have a fun week of practice this week, lol, he is going to be great, but i also agree we really have to clean up all the personal fouls

im not going to argue with you. im not that kind of person. to each his own.

LJ is always welcome in my book. Chizik will punish him, correctly. LJ is a player, he will take it and get his spot back.

1. Coach Chizik will take care of this I have NO doubt.

2. I can not express enough how ridiculous and stupid his actions were hitting the QB in the endzone. I definitely like the emotion that he has on the field, but the coaches need to get them under control and teach him how to keep things in check before frustration, someone jawing at him, or a cheap shot unseen in the plays before this incident cause aggression that leads to what we seen tonight. All a cheap shot like this did was allow the Rebel offense to step it up about 5 steps and all the momentum we had, which was in the red anyway, just gets all the more against us and we get steamrolled. Their defense is also on the lookout and have some stage of payback on their mind I guarantee it. There is so many areas that this affected our performance, and probably even more so their performance, that the damage is far greater then the 15 yd penalty and losing a good defensive player.

3. Kicking him off the team is borderline idiocy. I can almost guarantee you he will wish he was kicked off the team while this point is drilled into his head and in the end he will be a lot better football player because of it.

4. Did I mention that Chizik will straighten him out?

No need to salt this wound anymore than it already has.

I expect we've seen the end of the personal foul parade. I don't know what will happen to Leonard. I don't expect him to start against Baylor, but he may play. But knowing Chizik, who knows. I'd hate to dump the rest of his true freshman year because of a stupid play, but the lesson has to be learned.

Here's my take on the play that I haven't seen yet in this thread...as stupid as the hit looked that deep in the end zone, I wondered if he lost his bearings for a second and didn't realize he was in...their QB kept accelerating all the way in and wasn't really slowed up when he knocked him out. I don't know if that's what happened for sure, but I thought that could have been the case in real time at least...

It's football. Yea it was a very very dumb play but hits are apart of football. I have no idea why anyone would even consider kicking LJ off the team. Dumbest thing i have ever heard. I sure as heck don't want to see what Chiz does to him on monday. LJ is a player, and he will learn from this, i am sure. He will be a better football player because of this stupid play.

I think Chizik likes aggressive players which Mr. Johnson is. Totally stupid foul, but everybody makes mistakes.

I believe the problem will be corrected and we will see Mr. Johnson again.

This play is way overblown in my opinion. Is it any worse than a late hit on QB in the pocket? Is it any worse than a late hit on the punter? Is it any worse than a late hit on a player going out of bounds? I don't think so.

I think what everyone is so fired up about is that it was the QB (which I think is protected way to much by officials already) and that it was a great hit. LJ knows how to hit. He's done it a few times already. This was 1 second to late. Very bad judgement but not the end of the world.

How are you all going to feel about him when he does this to a receiver in the middle of the field? Get off his back. It was a very stupid mistake and IMO not any worse than any other PF we collected today.

1. Coach Chizik will take care of this I have NO doubt.

I would have believed this after the South Dakota State game. I have a lot of doubt now we have played 4 games and have accumulated by my count 13 personal fouls. This has to be some kind of record. And LJ has committed at least 3 of these. He is clearly not ready to play as a freshman -- athletically yes, mentally no. I would like to see him suspended for the rest of the season. But I think he'll be back as soon as the NCAA allows, and I expect to see the same crap out of him in the future.
