Fred will always be a Cyclone legend but KILL THIS THREAD!!! Why do we have 11 pages talking about Fred Hoiberg? Worrying about his life decisions and speculating what we think is right and wrong, what could've been and should've been blah blah blah....it's sad.....I don't know weather to laugh or cry, move on people. We just won a Big 12 championship and have a favorable draw in the NCAA's.The tournament is upon us with tons of other things to talk about and celebrate and here a lot of you are........fanatically worrying about the accomplishments and choices of another man.

I suppose I will get aggressive reactionary responses..........

Good day folks....when you are done come on over to the" Aaron craft must be destroyed thread" or perhaps try the "parking in Tulsa thread" for people that need info after making the trip to support the current Cyclone coach and team.

We can multitask.

From SDS to a better P6 program than Nebraska? Not sure I agree with that.
I honestly don’t believe Nebraska is that bad of a job anymore. They are dumping money into that program, have a brand new arena and practice facilities, and the fans fill that arena every game now. On top of that, I’m not going to pretend getting players to Ames Iowa is way easier than getting them to Lincoln Nebraska.

At least it's not to Kansas or Iowa City. Hopefully he doesn't steal too many recruits or transfers that we have our eye on. I do anticipate he will relate well with any in-state Iowa recruits if this happens.

Even if he hadnt been a former coach, one of our most notable alumni being a frontrunner for the head coaching job at one of our historically most hated schools would probably be a huge thread.

Figured TJ would end up at Nebraska.
Besides not being very good at basketball, NE has realized that they are not very good at hiring mid-major coaches. They don’t want to fail taking that route again.

First choice is to hire away an existing successful major coach. Too hard to sell that to anyone who is worth hiring.

Second choice is to go after one who is out of work. Fred fits what they want.

Third choice is to hire a blue blood assistant.

Fourth choice is to keep Miles.

9 wins for Nebraska football is very doable for them next year. Honestly don’t find that delusional at all. Plus their schedule isnt very strong next year.

I do not see why people find it so hard to see Nebraska having some success. They are not going back to the 1990s anytime soon, but they have...

-- good facilities and a dedicated fan-base
-- some past glory to point to, even if becoming rather faded nowadays
-- no competition in a state of 2 million (as opposed to ISU, Iowa, and UNI splitting 3 million as a recruiting and revenue base across the state of Iowa)

Most importantly...

-- they are in the Big Ten West, an absolutely trash division, and avoid many of the harder games against the east powerhouses in most seasons
-- who is their real competition? Iowa seems to have a ceiling as a program, and Wisconsin seems to be losing a step... why not Nebraska given the alternatives?

I figure they can go back to Bo Pelini Land (e.g., win 9-10 per season, maybe play somebody tough in the Big Ten Championship and ruin the conference's shot at the playoff selection) without too much problem. They can feast on a weak division.

I think that is actually their "state of nature" right now. Mike Riley was a bad coach and the outlier. I think hanging out in the "good but not great" range is where they naturally belong with the structure of college football and their conference/division right now.

But I thought he’d never coach in college again? I though he hated recruiting? I thought he was going to retire super young because of his heart (this was a CW special).

They wish they could go back to the '90s. They won the Big 8 tournament in '94.

no competition in state? Creighton? and there really isn’t much in state talent for basketball in Nebraska to begin with.

I was talking about football.

I thought "Mike Riley" would have made that clear.

I typed it wrong/fixed it on the edit. One of you got it, the other not.

So my apologies. :)
