While it's yet to be seen if Fred makes Fuskers winners and Prohm continues our recent success, don't forget...Carol doesn't have to stop shopping. Carol Hoiberg might be the only guaranteed winner of this whole thing ;);)

Fred can coach any where, just wish it weren't in a state that close to Iowa. You know he will be after the same recruits as ISU.

FWIW Nebraska actually seemed to have some decent players already.

I think Miles just sort of sucked.

That was my initial thought, too. But then others reminded me that Weiskamp and Carlton werent interested enough in ISU anyway. Kinda been a drought for getting top instate guys. As for Lipsey, I worry, but there was no guarantee he wouldnt blow up further and end up with Roy (no bashers, it’s just an example ).. still wish we would offer Born and give him a shot...13 man roster, why not?

The only way I'm going to back Hoiberg on this is if he does to NU what Brett Favre did the Vikings. Take them within 1 play of greatness only to throw it away and ride off into sunset laughing.

That's more a take on how poorly they have done hiring coaches than how poor a program they are. Fred has as much opportunity to succeed there as he had at Iowa State. Both were failing year after year to make the ncaa tourney. Both have good fan support in their home arena (Nebraska averaged 15,492 per game last year, good for 11th in the nation while ISU averaged 14,121 per game, 19th in the nation last season). Same recruiting pool.

If Fred wanted to do "better" than this, my guess is that he would have. He could have tried to get other jobs such as the UCLA job, etc... He took the job he wanted. Good for him, good for Nebraska.

sleeping giant. its a great job for him.

I'm not following the hostility. Maybe I am being naive, but let's just visualize this. What if Fred was talking to Pollard? What if Fred was keeping his eye on what Iowa State was going to do with Prohm or what Prohm was going to do to Iowa State? Do I honestly think Prohm was going to Alabama? No. Do I think discussions were made by all 3 parties? Yes. Do I think Pollard picked the phone and called Fred as an immediate back up plan if Prohm left? Jamie is a pretty smart dude, you dang right he did!

Pollard wanted Prohm, Prohm stayed. Fred took the next best option. Am I being naive? Maybe. But if this really played out like I just described then we really can't fault Hoiberg.

I don't think Fred wants to come back to Ames. When he was here he looked at a lot of other jobs after he got things going.

I think if Prohm left pollard’s first call would’ve been TJ. I think loyalty is big to Pollard and while I think he is completely fine with Fred leaving for the NBA. I speculate Pollard doesn’t enjoy losing successful coaches.

I believe Fred wants to get back to the NBA and my guess is if he is successful at Nebby he will bolt on the first opportunity at the top level. I don’t think Pollard wants to be in the business of being a stepping stone school. Look at all his past hires, Pollard tries to get the coaches that can see themselves retiring at ISU or spending a long time at the school.

I saw a Hoiberg for Mayor sign in South Lincoln today. It kind of blends in with all of the other mayoral candidate signs and most people here probably don't get it.

If ISU and Nebby had a job opening after this season, and both showed interest in Fred, would Fred have still taken the Nebby job over coming back to ISU?

I think he would have. He doesn't seem to have any allegiance whatsoever, or love, for ISU anymore it seems.
