And that Tennesse game?

Point is while Iowa's strong fundamentals are usually what makes a difference, they've had some real flops in big bowl games in both Fry and Ferentz eras.

I agree and I understand where you're coming from. Definitely been some disappointment in bowl games for our programs.

Reading comprehension is clearly not your forte. He wasn't making an Iowa-Iowa State comparison, he was (rightly) challenging the notion that just because Iowa beat USC that Iowa would have defeated Notre Dame. Poor logic and lazy thinking.

Iowa would have all kinds of trouble with this ND team. Iowa struggles with good defenses.

I agree. This year not the case though. Again. Just comparing teams this year because some of our fans will refuse to acknowledge Iowa was clearly the better team this year in all aspects of the game. Period.

I would love to see a QB challenge next year. I love Purdy, but instinctively, I think Mitchell may just be better as more of a duel threat? I trust CMC, but Mitchell needs to see the field more often....

If there was a "you are a dip ****" button, you would have gotten it. Move to chicago and be a bears fan, where the #2QB is always the best option. Purdy is the best we have had in a long, long time. The fact our OC sees him as a drop back, pocket passer is one of the biggest issues with this staff. Competition is always good, but Brock is not holding Brock back.

I think the fundamentals made the difference for sure.

Angles, tackling, special teams etc. are things ISU needs to get better at. It's what makes the difference for KSU as well and today I thought ND was really solid in that aspect. They were dialed in and ISU would have struggled no matter what I think.

Just an FYI but Brock mentioned in post game interviews that's he's had a bum ankle since the WV thus limiting his mobility.

So "competition is always good", but I'm a dip **** for suggesting otherwise?? Purdy is the best we've had in a long time, but why is my suggestion that a good QB competition is so bad? If it came to a running QB, I'd take Mitchell every day. So why not throw in a comparison to passing AND running and see what makes more sense?

Why wasn’t he allowed to run in the games prior to WV is my question? He turned down a lot of yards rushing this year and most of time it was to throw an errant pass down the field.
I do wonder if the ankle injury explains some of his regression in his mechanics as the season went along.

Pettway said "Iowa State beat Iowa State today".

What BS. We got our asses kicked. Enough about other teams. Let's focus on ourselves.

The defense didn't fix the off-tackle run from the K-State game. What's with that ? I thought we had a great defense.

I used to think we would be ok, playing in the Big 12. You give other good coaches (that are coming into the Big 12) time to figure out perpetual crossing routes, it is time to change something...

You posted the same thing twice. THAT seems kinda lazy to just cut and paste. Saying it twice does not make it twice as impactful or twice as true or twice as stupid.

Thanks for the info, but to the post I quoted, that ankle would have to linger a long time and be a major issue for Brock not to get the nod as the starter in game 1 in 2020. He's earned his spot and I just don't see a scenario where we are a better team without him at QB. With our Oline issues and play calling, I just don't see any excuse to think Purdy is the player who needs to be replaced.

Bottom line...this years team wasn’t anything above average. Offensive line? Average. Defensive line? Average. Defensive backs? Below average. QB? Average. It all adds up to a average 7-6 team that left a lot of opportunities on the field.

Brock was injured since WV? We’ve gone 3-4 since that game. How many plays did we use Mitchell in that span while Purdy was injured? Yes, Purdy is pretty good; but he still can make bad decisions, can’t throw deep, and doesn’t rush the ball. Is Mitchell THAT bad?

Probably not but life is not a video game where you just put the fast guy in.
