I’m not sure if he was a bad coach but I think Floyd, Eustachy and Hoiberg were better.

Tim Floyd was a .500 coach in conference and Larry in 5 years finished 9th, 1st, 1st, 10th and 9th. Yeah, each had a couple great years of basketball but overall they were pretty average.

So who in your opinion by the numbers was the best coach in Iowa State basketball history?

No but nobody really looks at the grand scheme of things and everyone lives in the now. If they don't bank in that 3 the narrative of our fan base is a lot different right now
Yes, if the coach was successfully able plan and coach his players the final 8 seconds the narrative would be a lot different.

Yeah just to follow up and clarify: I have no beef with passionate fans being critical of a coach and team because you care. It's the over the top, jack ass stuff that I think we as a fan base should try to be better than. I see it all of the time. Has happened forever, people just have so many outlets now that it's everywhere. We have to self police each other to be the best fan base possible. Just my two cents.

While I agree on 'dont be a jackass' I would also note that jackassery isn't limited to those that are critical. Cat was probably the worst example of that (thanks to whoever dropped that banhammer) but there exists a segment that tolerates nothing but sunshine and rainbows and jump all over anyone who doesn't toe that line.

Well it depends on what numbers you look at.

A case could be made for Larry because of the Elite 8, but his over all numbers with 2 9th place and 1 10th place finish is 5 years are not a good look.

A case could be made for Fred if you look at win percentage and resurrection of excitement for ISU basketball.

A case could be made for Floyd if you look at win percentage and consistency, but the 11th place in his final year is a black eye.

Either way it's not roses and unicorns of basketball history that some believe.

You might want to check back to this website on 12-31-2011. People were definitely worried where this thing was going, but it was only 1.5 years in.

worried yes, but calling for his immediate firing? The 2 things are waaaayyyyy different.

what does optimism hurt?
I'm older than most folks. But winning the conference tournament 'anytime' would give quite a buffer to the coach. But, now as expectations are high, the negativity bar has been raised quite a bit. I'm still quite happy to be 'patient' as Prohm has already demonstrated achieving business milestones.
