Note that "make the tournament" [next year, no less] is the very essence of Lowered Expectations.
64 -- actually 66 -- teams "make the tournament."
I didn’t say we are reaching expectations for this program. I said i think it’s a tournament team in ‘21-22. And it’s 68 teams cowboy.

Here’s where you’re wrong- Placing a bet does not mean you’re “rooting” for that to happen. There have been dozens of games I wagered against ISU yet hope I’m going to lose that money.

I already told someone that we weren't going to agree on this and that was okay.

My opinion is that you are a garbage fan if you bet against your team and nothing anyone trying to justify it on here says is going to change that.

If you hope you lose the money then why make the bet?

You all can tell yourselves whatever you want to justify it, I don't care. My opinion of posters on here couldn't really get much lower, but somehow people like you and your ilk seem to do it on a regular basis.

He brought defense just not GOOD defense :jimlad:
Oh by the way, the mighty Jackrabbits got rolled by the even mightier SD Coyotes by nearly 20. Just more affirmation that we suck!
maybe this thought belongs in a recruiting thread instead of this one but as I was reading the Ames Tribune this morning I thought it feels like we are headed down the same path with Tamin Lipsey that we experienced with Harrison Barnes. A very talented Ames basketball player that ends up going to college somewhere else because we have what many think is essentially a lame duck coach.

You're right - I'm a garbage fan who's been at nearly every home basketball and football game for the last 12 years.

Those of us who play the sports betting markets consistently wager numbers, not teams. It literally has nothing to do with who you're rooting for. If you don't understand how this market works that's ok - just admit that and move on instead of giving everyone a dumb rating.

need to add context. Can’t say incoming players are improvement over who left when we had a lottery pick. Also, meaningful players that stayed are Conditt, Bolton, and Young. A whole bunch of newbies after that. This Covid year has screwed a lot of things up, andthis team has not had the opportunity nor time to learn to gel with each other. The only teams that will be successful this year are the ones with 4 year starters (IOWA) because they have already built chemistry. Look at Duke.
Best to just enjoy the ride and look for improvement. It’s going to be rough..but we’ve been there before
Sure i get it. What i posted is what people were claiming last season about this season. Prohm defenders said we would be better. Guess what? We still suck. hali was hurt last season so we didnt have him anyway and the incoming transfers, freshman, and extra experience for people like bolton and george would make us better than what we were last year. I dont deny covid may have made things difficult. I dont really know how much their practicing has been limited. But covid isnt an iowa only issue. And instead of next man up, it seems like next excuse up for why we are continually getting embarrassing results. No one expected to beat iowa, but having the worst lopsides defeat on matchup history and blaming it on the tough environment of the mostly empty arena is a joke. Garza scored 21 straight points for his team. Maybe we should have tried guarding the national preseason player of the year before he gets to shooting range instead of crapping our pants.

Sure players like Loren Meyer don't happen every year, but looking back over the last 20 years the Cyclones have put some solid 4/5 players on the court to compliment really strong guards.

But we aren't seeing that kind of recruiting by Prohm. The post players Prohm has recruited that earned consistent playing time are: Young, Lard, Jacobson (tfr) and Conditt.

Sure the game has changed in that most teams like to play 3 guards and a small power forward. But a lot of the guys from the below list were damn good 3 point shooters and could play 4 in a Steve Prohm small-ball offense.

ISU 4/5 players since 2000 pretty much chronological:
  • Rancik .308 36 makes in 4 years
  • Shirley .500 1 make in 4 years
  • Pearson --- 0 makes in 2 years
  • Vroman .077 1 make in 2 years
  • Homan .125 2 makes in 4 years
  • Clark .339 102 makes in 4 years
  • Hubalek .289 33 makes in 3 years
  • Brackins .292 69 makes in 3 years
  • Gilstrap .371 43 makes in 1 year
  • Vanderbeken .424 108 makes in 3 years
  • White .333 4 makes in 1 year
  • Ejim .305 92 makes in 4 years
  • Clyburn .308 41 makes in 1 year
  • Niang .375 188 makes in 4 years
  • Hogue .388 50 makes in 2 years
  • McKay --- 0 makes in 2 years
  • Burton .400 60 makes in 2 years
The above list doesn't include some talented guys who were at ISU for a cup of coffee (like Lard): Taggart, Denby, Hamilton and Godfrey

If I would rank where Prohm's recruit fit in the 2000 to 2020 list of post players, they would all be near the bottom.
I thought I would look at what you posted. It does look like about half of them (see stats inserted in you post above) would be both a passable percentage (.300+) and a reasonable number of makes based on the years they played (10 makes per year). I think I was very generous for your characterization of "damn good 3 point shooters". Some others like Rancik, Hubalek and Brackins might be considered "passable shooters" due to lower percentage or lack of makes.

Also the other guys:
Lard --- 0 makes in 2 years
Taggart .000 0 makes in 1 year
Dendy .000 0 makes in 1 year
Hamilton --- 0 makes in 2 years
Godfrey --- 0 makes in 1 year

No commentary, just expanding on what you said with more information.

Some people have a difficult time separating logic from their emotions.

In "Fanville", betting against your team is a much more heinous crime than jinxing your teams' kicker by saying he is "automatic". You deserve the maximum penalty/sentence that the law allows. Macloney will be the sentencing judge as your guilt has already been established. Garbage fans deserve no mercy. :)

I cheer for ISU with my heart but I bet on games with my head. Betting against ISU on Friday was easy money. You know, it is ok to be a realist and know when the program is done. I still had some shred of hope for Prohm going into last season but the Florida A&M game ruined that.

Unsure if Lipsey has confidence in the direction of our current bb program or not?
Not getting him onboard would be big - total "Cyclone" family and he's a tremendous athlete.

My thoughts are this:

Prohm actually recruited too well in spots. The key to modern CBB is to recruit really well, but not too well. THT, Wigginton, Haliburton played a combined 5/12 seasons. He just able to replace them fast enough and that is where we are at now. Fred recruited really well, but Niang, Morris, Naz and other stayed all 4 years. It’s also fair to note that Fred’s transfers were significantly better. Bottom line, if those 3 Prohm recruits stay 4 years (like Garza did), this message board thread never exists.

I would just urge Iowa States to be careful turning into other fan bases (I’m seeing it already). 90% of Iowa fans wanted Fran gone and maybe rightfully so (he has 3 Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal APPEARANCES in 10 years).

Loyalty has been and should be one of the top traits of this fan base. I’m seeing that change. This program won the Big 12 Tournament 21 months ago.

Losing is hard, but your true character comes out after losses, not wins. Anyone is a good fan after wins.

Fran was 96-75 through his first 5 years at Iowa

Prohms first 5 years at ISU = 95-73

since that Big 12 tournament
  • 13-22 overall
  • 5-13 in conference play
  • worst point spread loss in Hilton history (FAMU)
  • worst CyHawk loss in school history
  • 2nd worst CyHawk Hilton loss in school history
  • 3rd worst KU loss in Hilton history

I'm gonna guess that loss to Tech last year in Hilton fits in here.
They also got lit up by TCU two seasons ago.

For every high point under Prohm there's a Bizarro World low point or two.

  • worst loss in Hilton history vs Red Raiders
  • worst road loss in school history vs Red Raiders

Also gave us worst loss vs Baylor in Hilton history
