Just looked at the updated portal list on Flo. That's a long list of names. I expect Iowa and PSU to get some cream from the top but we got kids I've never heard of with mediocre results from mediocre programs. I didn't want to initially say it that way but that's my first impression. That's not taking it to the next level.

I very aware of where we have been and where we are with our current guys and the recruits we have signed. I will give the coaches a lot credit for that. I want to take it to the next level.
If Parker, Jarrett (if he gets somewhat right health wise, big if), Colbray and Coleman (after what we saw at the end of last year, there’s serious potential) all max out what they are capable of at the NCAAs, that’s a lot of points. Then obviously add in the sh*t ton David will score and you’ve got a nice group. I’m not saying this is where I hoped we would be at this point but there’s a lot of talent in that group that can do some damage. Redding, the Hawaiian and even Broderson all taking the next step can add to that too. Are there flaws and holes in that lineup, though?Absolutely. But we can compete with a lot of teams with that crew.

I can appreciate your take and the fact that you're giving credit to the coaches and progress as a whole. Personally, I guess that I'm not really looking at the "Transfer Route" as a way to take our program to the next level. IF that would happen I'd be super pumped. Most studs in Wrestling (that are having success) find happiness in where they are at. I also understand there will always be exceptions to the rule (Desanto, Dean type guys). I think the Transfer Route applies more to team sports like FB or Basketball (Baker Mayfield) when someone is buried behind someone better and they see no other way to get some playing time before their eligibility is up. Wrestlers are usually recruited and spread out (by year) enough that they may have to sit for a year or two but eventually they can see when the guy ahead of them will graduate and they will get their shot. Another option wrestlers have is to move up/down weights to crack the lineup. Without studying the transfer list I'd predict that most of the guys that enter the transfer portal would meet your "mediocre" definition and wouldn't be considered "next level program changer" type guys.

What?!?!?
Maybe you're being sarcastic but I just described why in my post above. Don't think that I'm not wanting (or expecting) our program to continue to jump levels... I never said that. I just think it's going to be done primarily by the recruits that the coaches have brought in and the development of our guys and continue to recruit guys that produce like Carr, Degen, Parker, Gremmel etc.

I agree. I think most of us could that there’s absolutely a place for a well place transfer like Willie, etc. But relying too heavily on that I don’t think is the way to go at all. And I don’t think Kevin strikes me as the kind of coach that would disagree with that.

I haven’t looked at the transfer portal lately, assuming the Stanford guys are staying put, who other than Wick at 165 are in the portal right now that would be a game changer ?

Just a guess, but I don't expect any game changing additions (or even instant upgrades) from the portal. We got a couple competitive/depth guys and I'm settled in to seeing how that works out.

Interesting since Gomez is scheduled to visit and projects to be 141 . Pretty sure Bennett was 141 this year

3, I think. Regular redshirt, RS Freshman, Medical redshirt & covid year

I was thinking he only had 2 left because he's listed on the roster as a RJr. He gets a redo on the RJr because is covid. I was thinking for some reason his Medical rs was already counted. He came out of HS a year after Degen. Still not sure why he would go somewhere where he would be a backup like Iowa. He would start at a lot of good schools if he's healthy.

That word is extremely critical.

Why? I don't find fan criticism of players an issue. They're adults and choosing to put themselves out there. Now, I believe there are boundaries and things need to stay respectful at all times but I do not see what was said as "extremely critical". On another note, are you saying that the only reason Gomez is leaving is because he cannot beat Parker and his health issues don't exist anymore? Wasn't his health the reason he "retired" four months ago?

"Critical" as in important, not as in criticism.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're put in medical retirement at a school, you have to sign papers? Coaches, trainers & doctors would not allow him to come back? He's leaving b/c another school will allow him to wrestle. Whatever school he chooses, he's going to have to pass all the tests. I was told "no way he will go to Iowa." We'll have to wait & see.
