I wouldn't read too much into that. Like it or not, it is a pretty common dig at ag schools everywhere. I don't get offended by it.

Funny thing is, everybody always needs to eat. No matter what, farmers are making some money, and it is one of the noblest professions. I am very proud of ISU and its contributions to helping feed the world. If it is a farm U, so be it. Just don't go making fun of a farmer on a full stomach.

I'm proud of ISU's ag tradition too. Auburn is a respected peer university of ours; we have lots of faculty with ties to Auburn. It's a premier land-grant school, just like us.
Every 'Bama fan I've met, though, includes some ag "dig" when talking about their rival. It's a lot like here...

Mr. Crimson Tide guy- I think it is safe to say that your program has gained more fans in a single weekend than any program ever in the history of the universe. In fact, "whoever is playing Iowa" just moved down my favorite teams list, to third place after ISU and "whoever is playing Auburn".

I have always respected your program. I know I am biased, but there is no way... no way that GC can survive at Auburn. It will get ugly for him there soon. Enjoy the $750,000 from our in-state hicks and good luck with a coaching improvement. Stay tuned for the on-going Auburn train wreck.

Signed, a Bama Fan. UA class of 99.

You are welcome for the early Chistmas present.

Florida State and Miami also like to make fun of Florida by calling them 'Farm U' and a country school as well.

Your info on GC is appreciated. I didn't realize he would be this incompetent. I love it now, though! He is under a microscope here for any mistakes. Football is a religion in Alabama and probably is taken more seriously . Paul Finebaum makes Jim Rome look soft and he makes a good living here stirring the pot via sports talk 365 days a year. He will have a field day on Monday. Even the Tiger fans are blasting him before he sets foot on campus. I have NEVER seen such a negative response to a hire. The AU AD is Jacobs and is getting blasted by most fans on both sides of the state and will be fired soon.

In this state, NFL is nothing and college football is everything. You have to declare to be a fan as a child or be considered weird. Something to keep your eye on.... check the recruiting rankings on signing day. See how he does compared with the top 8 SEC schools. That is all I will say.

As for your question about Saban, Cody, and John Wilson (our qb)... Although he has taken some heat since leaving the dolphins for us, we love him to death and deserve some quality coaching after the endless string of incompetence in that position for years. Cody was an unknown until this year, he is a beast at nose tackle.. and the good news is he is back for one more year (I wish our Outland winner Andre Smith would stay for his senior year but he won't ) . Our QB, JPW, is a senior but he is not NFL quality. Great kid and solid, but not the golden arm needed for next level.

Anyway, I can't believe you guys actually get paid money to lose a coach like him. I can't believe Auburn hired him. This is completely insane. Iowa State is my new 2nd favorite team and will dvr the games next year.

Hey CrimsonTide77 - Thanks for checking in - I have been looking for a reason to jump on the Tide's bandwagon this year and now I have it. Being down here in OU-land I get the Sooners crammed down my throat on a daily basis, so maybe I will guy some Bama gear to get their goats.

I will enjoy rooting for Bama and against Auburn for years to come. Keep us posted on the local reaction this week.

Auburn will surely enjoy Gene's lateral passing game and option pitches at the one yard line......

ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know if/where we might be able to stream his show on Monday?!? That sounds like great entertainment. He might be a litle harder hitting than "Tha Cot-man"!

From what I've read Auburn's not that respected of a university...

He may be a two year filler for you also. Seems like two years is his limit anywhere. Enjoy.

Honestly we're kind of in shock. When we hired Chizik he had a strong resume and had moved around a lot. I think most of us figured ISU was a stepping stone for him and if he had a few good years of competing for Big 12 North titles and going to bowl games, he'd be gone to a bigger program. But I never expected that any coach could parlay a 10 game losing streak into a step up to a major conference coaching job at double his current salary. It's so ridiculous you almost have to laugh. We don't get much SEC news here, maybe you can tell us the situation at Auburn. It doesn't seem like Chizik was their first, second, or even fifth or tenth choice, he just happened to be the first guy who would take the job. Are their meddling boosters, especially the Trustee (Lowder?) the reason that they interviewed so many coaches and couldn't hire any of them?

That is how you break a losing streak - move on.

This is a little strong. He does get to play Miss St! At any rate, being an ISU grad that now lives in Baton Rouge and also cheers for the Tigers in addition to the Cyclones, I look forward to AU getting beaten like a rented mule at the hands of the many great coaches and programs that make up the SEC. AU has really screwed the pooch.

Just make sure there are no MAC or MVC teams on the Auburn schedule....

Those Iowa fans went over and mocked Stevie Hicks' death, telling people to go find an overpass to jump off of. This isn't really the same thing.

Exactly. THe spin...oh my...the spin...I'm...shocked!

Thanks for stopping buy - good luck against Utah and especially next year against Auburn. I can't say Saban is that much better of a person, however, he's a far better coach.

always appreciate other fans talking about Iowa State.

I welcome them too. That's why I spend more time here than on CR. That site more or less dares another school to post. Boring!!

I welcome them all. Makes life a lot more interesting. Some times I wonder what CR is afraid of.
