Not trying to pick a fight - let's just throw some discussion points out - like you said Hoke is not on the market, so that point is moot.

Suppose Buffalo goes back to a couple of losing seasons after this year with Gill? We've only seen one successful season - Suppose you are JP - are you comfortable giving a $1MM, 5-year contract based on that data? I guess you are....I'm not there...yet..

Also, How will you feel about Gill if UConn pounds them like a veal cutlet in the bowl game?

There is more to hiring a coach than record alone.

You should know that.

You think we can lure Hoke out of his newly signed deal wib11 th SDSU?

I don't think we should be going after coaches that just signed new deals with new schools.

No not suggesting that at all; my point was more to the proven record of Hoke and the impressive 12-0 season compared to Buffalo's, despite B-State's loss in those made for TV games (Kind of like the B12 / B11 basketball tourney games). Hoke is off the market, obviously for good reasons.

Considering that we gave Chizik the deal we did with ZERO head coaching wins under his belt... Also you say 1 successful season. Did you see the post about the 5 wins in 4 years that buffalo had prior to Gill... Not saying you dont make good points. Im just saying that Buffalo was the laughing stock of the nation for 5 years. Gill stepped in and brought them up steadily over a short 3 year period. Its called building a program. He did it with the worst team in the country. In my opinion thats like turning **** in to gold.

If I take the time to interview him and decide he's the guy for the job I'm very comfortable paying the cost. This is not a decision made solely on one successful season. Jamie is a bit smarter than you're giving him credit.

Cloz80 and Walo - I was fine with JP's decision with Gene based on what we had: Asst Coach of the year; 12-0 season and a Nat Champ season.

No problem with that at all...matter of fact, I'm very much more comfortable with that hire than I am right now with Gill's resume. Not saying, I'll can't get there with Gill.

I'll trust JP and if he hires Gill, I'll geton board - just that now is the time to start having some discussion and debate. And I realize the pickings might be slim right now and certainly different from 2006.

exactly. like recruiting.

i hate when people play the race card. i never thought i would, but think of what having a black head coach will do for recruiting...

WHoa dude; back off if you're suggesting that's where I was coming from. I hope you mean the Auburn AD.

Gene had Texas' athletes and Vince Young and Mack Brown. Gill had Buffalo.

I can respect that but who knows how much chizik had to do with the success of those programs. Not saying D coordinator and Assistant coach dont have an impact but is it possible that Chizik just looked damn good because he was with two very prestigious winning football programs that were really good before he got there anyways... What Gill has done at Buffalo is not comparable to Chizik being on a coaching staff at two already successful programs.

OK - your points are well taken and making me think about this differently. I would just feel more confident if Gill had a couple back-to-back seasons like this instead of one (5) loss season.

Also, so far it's been mostly Gill in the discussion boards, I got a feeling JP surprises us with somebody not even getting most of the threads.

Ya I could see that happening pollard caught me completely off guard with Chizik! I knew his name was in the mix but was hoping for and expecting Brian Kelly... Kinda wish we woulda got him but whats done is done. Like Pollard said we just have to look forward.

ISU is NOT getting Gill. simple as that. after 2004 he was offered a position on the OU staff and turned it down because he didnt want to have to play NU.

And dont think that he wants to get back at NU, he is very good friends with Tom Osborne and has publicly said that he does not blame TO for not giving him the head coaching job as he is an offensive coach when we needed a defensive coach. he understood.

Good luck on the coaching search but you are not getting Turner Gill. im sorry.
