We just don't bring enough to the table to justify being added to another P5 conference. This will be the season to do anything. At least we have that.
I disagree but I see what your saying. Basketball means little to nothing in this. It’s all about football. Which is why I don’t even want to think about where we would be in this if Jamie didn’t completely nail the Campbell hire.

I can see it now, the "Google-16" or "Amazon-16". Wow! That sure would make geography irrelevant. And talk about NIL benefits. There is no ceiling.

You call someone out for a garbage take and then say Hilton is a top 10 arena? In the conference yes. Nationally? Not a ******* chance.

Now how does the ISU budget look compared to our peers? Football is the driver. ISU historically has one of the worst CFB programs....ever. Texas and Oklahoma control Iowa State's destiny. Loyal fan base means nothing when that fan base is small and cheap.
Stop saying “historically”. The people making decisions care more about present and potential future. This discussion is about where we will be in the future, not in the past.

TV markets don’t matter in this round of realignment. Stop parroting that belief.

Okay, who brings a bigger cut of media rights revenue to a conference than they would take out when looking at OSU, KSU, ISU, BU, TT, and TCU?

For Big 10, they will only take an AAU school. ACC schools are out until 2035. That leaves KU and ISU. They either stay put or add them. The question is whether ISU bings in enough to add. When people make these decisions, they base it on expected revenue over the next 20-30 years. They have discussions with media partners. I have worked on a lot of M&A and business development deals and history other than last couple years is not a criteria. It is all about potential future revenue/profit/ROE and strategic fit. The brand of ISU is growing and continues to attract more viewers in a world where number of viewers is more important than size of market.

Behind you
If the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Pac 12 are all moving to 16 team conferences lets think realistically here about the Big Tens options if Notre Dame is indeed headed for the ACC. I know you Hawk fans are lurking. Your hatred for Iowa State aside what two available schools would you want to go after? If Notre Dame is off the table I'd have to think Kansas and Iowa State are two of the top contenders.

I used to think there was no way in h*ll the B1G would ever bring in ISU, but that's when geographic TV markets ruled the day. Not as much the case any more and will continue to become less important. If the SEC goes to 16 I don't think there's any way the B1G just sits around and does nothing. I also don't see UNC or UVA as realistic options. Those are deep regional roots and UNC and UVA are ACC bluebloods, unlike Maryland's situation. As much as I'd love ND to join the B1G there's too much historical stink there, and they've already established a relationship with the ACC, if football is going to join a conference I don't see them upending all that and putting themselves through all the pain and headaches of the inevitable litigation. That would make the ACC even stronger and less likely to be poached.

Two most likely scenarios I think are ISU to the B1G, or in a reformed "lesser" conference that's stronger than G5 but not perceived as strong as the other P5s. One reason I think the B1G is a decent possibility is that with the evolution to streaming and away from geographical TV footprints, conferences are simply going to need more athletic content to push out. The location makes sense. And no disrespect, but I don't think a blueblood 'type' university is going to be an option. If the reformed conference happens, I'd think the impact on ISU would be lessened with the CFP expansion to 12 teams, no auto P5 qualifiers, etc. You'd have a weaker conference schedule but load up on P5 OOC games to build the SOS.

If all this does go down I'd hope for ISU to the B1G. I think it's awesome for a state our size to have two major university players in athletics. Why not do the Michigan/Michigan St., Oregon/Oregon St., Mississippi/Mississippi St. Arizona/Arizona St. same conference thing. Would be fun.

I think if the Big 10 does any expanding, they will take Kansas and Mizzou. As far as I know, there is no exit fee for the SEC. I'm sure West Virginia or Okie State will take Mizzou's spot in the SEC. I think is is Pac 12 or bust for ISU. i would love the Big 10, but that just doesn't seem like it will happen.

It’s definitely bad but you responded to someone saying the pac 12 and big 10 won’t take us with “that’s it.” Like he actually knows what the hell is going on lol. No one does. Seriously no one. And I’m all for being realistic, but right now we really don’t know the current situation. I love discussing things and talking things through but I 100% disagree with you that it’s over for Iowa state.

thanks to JP’s foresight and savvy management, ISU is positioned about as well as we could be for the upcoming upheaval: Top 10 football program, fanatical fan base, top flight facilities, cachet as an ascendant football brand. We are in much better shape than the contretemps of 2010-11. In the streaming media world, ISU has a compelling offering for a conference looking to keep up with the SEC. I just hope it’s not the PAC 12.

I don’t think the Big 10 wants Missouri for a bunch of different reasons this time

I dont think television sets will be nearly as important as fans willing to pay for streaming content this go around.

This x1000. Cable is dying. Streaming is the future and ISU is positioned much better positioned for streaming than cable.

While we have to face facts and acknowledge there are some dire end results on the table for ISU, there are some intriguing opportunities, as well.
