I disagree but I see what your saying. Basketball means little to nothing in this. It’s all about football. Which is why I don’t even want to think about where we would be in this if Jamie didn’t completely nail the Campbell hire.We just don't bring enough to the table to justify being added to another P5 conference. This will be the season to do anything. At least we have that.
Come back to 2021 because TV markets are not a criteria.Correct. Really simple, it’s all about $$ and ISU adds legitimately zero additional revenue due to Iowa already having the market for the BTN, etc.
I am not worried because worrying accomplishes nothing. It doesn’t change the outcome. It just provides us a false feeling that we have control over some that we don’t.You should probably worry...
Iowa is only one vote and there will be political pressure in Iowa for U of Iowa to vote yes.In the past,, Iowa would have vetod any possibility of ISU becoming a Big10 member.
Stop saying “historically”. The people making decisions care more about present and potential future. This discussion is about where we will be in the future, not in the past. You call someone out for a garbage take and then say Hilton is a top 10 arena? In the conference yes. Nationally? Not a ******* chance.
Now how does the ISU budget look compared to our peers? Football is the driver. ISU historically has one of the worst CFB programs....ever. Texas and Oklahoma control Iowa State's destiny. Loyal fan base means nothing when that fan base is small and cheap.
TV markets don’t matter in this round of realignment. Stop parroting that belief.
For Big 10, they will only take an AAU school. ACC schools are out until 2035. That leaves KU and ISU. They either stay put or add them. The question is whether ISU bings in enough to add. When people make these decisions, they base it on expected revenue over the next 20-30 years. They have discussions with media partners. I have worked on a lot of M&A and business development deals and history other than last couple years is not a criteria. It is all about potential future revenue/profit/ROE and strategic fit. The brand of ISU is growing and continues to attract more viewers in a world where number of viewers is more important than size of market.Okay, who brings a bigger cut of media rights revenue to a conference than they would take out when looking at OSU, KSU, ISU, BU, TT, and TCU?
The question is whether ISU bings in enough to add.
If the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Pac 12 are all moving to 16 team conferences lets think realistically here about the Big Tens options if Notre Dame is indeed headed for the ACC. I know you Hawk fans are lurking. Your hatred for Iowa State aside what two available schools would you want to go after? If Notre Dame is off the table I'd have to think Kansas and Iowa State are two of the top contenders.
This is still my theory as well. This is the start of it all. There's going to be an ongoing 64 team super league (which ISU would easily be in), the NCAA is dead.
It’s definitely bad but you responded to someone saying the pac 12 and big 10 won’t take us with “that’s it.” Like he actually knows what the hell is going on lol. No one does. Seriously no one. And I’m all for being realistic, but right now we really don’t know the current situation. I love discussing things and talking things through but I 100% disagree with you that it’s over for Iowa state.
I don’t think the Big 10 wants Missouri for a bunch of different reasons this timeI think if the Big 10 does any expanding, they will take Kansas and Mizzou. As far as I know, there is no exit fee for the SEC. I'm sure West Virginia or Okie State will take Mizzou's spot in the SEC. I think is is Pac 12 or bust for ISU. i would love the Big 10, but that just doesn't seem like it will happen.
I dont think television sets will be nearly as important as fans willing to pay for streaming content this go around.
This x1000. Cable is dying. Streaming is the future and ISU is positioned much better positioned for streaming than cable.
While we have to face facts and acknowledge there are some dire end results on the table for ISU, there are some intriguing opportunities, as well.
