How demoralizing to read AAC fans read how they should add OSU and ISU since the AAC is stronger to them now

Barrett Sallee with a piece on CBSSports on where the remaining B12 members should end up if the league folds

Baylor: AAC
Iowa State: Big Ten
Kansas: Big Ten
Kansas State: Mountain West
Oklahoma State: Pac-12
TCU: Pac-12
Texas Tech: AAC
West Virginia: ACC

ISU: Big Ten
There is a report that says that Iowa State has been connected to the Big Ten which makes a ton of sense. The Cyclones already have an in-state rivalry with current Big Ten West power Iowa and is a member of the Association of American Universities -- which is an important factor in determining which programs to invite. It has a true Midwest feel not only in its style of play on the gridiron, but a coach in Matt Campbell who was born in Ohio, played at Mount Union and coached at Toledo prior to heading to Ames, Iowa. Iowa State is consistently a tough out in football, just won the Fiesta Bowl and checks every other box that would be on the Big Ten's wish list.

This is the dream y’all. Sometimes crazy **** happens. Take the nut cups off. If we get kicked in the balls then be a man and barf and get over it. This could be the opportunity that we’ve been waiting for.

This could be our Battle of the Marne. Sometimes things just line up against all the odds.

Does that mean it will take forever, accomplish nothing and most of us will die?

If ISU and KU leave that kills the B12. With that the price for game inventory goes up for the remaining conferences. So while your question, at the surface, is a valid one it doesn't take into account the entire picture. ISU's value goes up tremendously in its merits.
Big 12 is now dead.

Do TV markets matter or potential subscriptions? If it was only TV markets, sure. How about AAU status? A good football program with great facilities? Regional similarity. Seems like we have a bit to offer.

The media landscape is trending away from cable TV and towards streaming platforms. In the latter case, potential subscribers, strong brand and compelling narrative matters. ISU is relatively strong in all three of those areas (certainly better than the also-rans that populate the B1G cellar). So, ISU has something to offer from a media standpoint.

If the B1G thinks it's advantageous to expand to 16 teams, and ISU/KU package deal would be an intriguing offering vs any other realistic alternatives: Both are in the regional footprint (read "low travel costs"), culturally similar, have the AAU pedigree, bring a competitive football (ISU) and basketball (KU, somewhat ISU) product. The only complicating factor is that KU football is a dumpster fire right now. In the B1G expansion scenario, what other, available schools are a better fit?

The real question is "Does the B1G thinks it's advantageous to expand to 16 teams?"

Minnesota
Nebraska
Kansas
Wisconsin
Illinois
Northwestern

Now that's a fun division that will spawn rivalries like crazy and every single destination is an easy days drive for everybody. The way it should be everywhere.

I like ISU's chances in that pod! Wouldn't have to play the big boys from the east very often, plus we could have 3 bona fide patsies in the non-con. Yes please!

True...on day one. But we could absolutely justify expansion with UNL and Wisconsin coming to town on the reg. Plus who knows if KU got their heads out of the a$$es. Minn crowds would be soild too.

I know realignment is driven by eye balls and TV dollars, but the B1G West pod w/ISU and KU is going to bring some massive gate to every school each game.

So it appears if you take out OU and TX.... ISU has the 3rd most viewership of the remaining Big 12 teams. That's not too shabby folks.......

The only reason I have any hope about this whole thing is that there has never been a better time for Iowa State for what seems like the potential biggest realignment yet. Will the last few years be enough to secure a spot in the big game of musical chairs? We'll have to wait and see.

Mr Sallee has a solid take. I legitimately like our fellow Big 12 orphans and want to see them land in good spots (except Baylor). I thought the Pac 12 had a bug up there a$$ about "religious" schools or was that was just a ploy to keep BYU out of the Pac 12? Perhaps the Pac 12 will have their come to Jesus moment when they see an opportunity to snag a quality program like TCU in the heart of SEC country. Otherwise, Pac 12 might take TTU (they used to be in a conference w/the 'Zona schools back in the day). Okie State to the Pac 12 also makes sense given the alternatives but, boy howdy, travel to those away games will be tough.

Tough breaks for KSU and probably Tech falling to G5 conferences. Though, the article makes a good point that the new playoff format and increased revenue makes G5 conferences more relevant. But still, revenue, prestige and recruiting are going to take a hit playing East Carolina and Nevada instead of Texas and OU.
