Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

The B1G poaching the best Pac-12 schools is not a worst case scenario for us. We would surely merge with the Pac-12 leftovers and exist in some space well behind the B1G and SEC in money but still in a league worth watching and still competitive, getting into the playoff, etc.

One thing about the PAC and B1G is that they actually (for the most part) care about academics.

Which why Cowherd making some good points recently how TX would have been great in the PAC with Silicon Valley, Californian's moving to TX, etc.

Yeah - takes the slight positive away from our potentially differentiating AAU status if the pool is opened up to AAU schools with other perceived/real benefits. And I agree that is how the B1G should start if they want to expand - best additions possible first, then moving down the list of options.

If we don't get an invite to the BIG relatively soon it is best for us that every conference get thrown in disarray. Why should Oregon State or Wake Forrest or Boston College or Washington State not have to prove their worth? Or Vanderbilt or the Mississippi schools for that matter.

I’m beginning to believe we have a lot more to offer the PAC then the Big Ten, and a spot at the table is more likely there for these reasons:

1. On field competitiveness may be weighed by the PAC more than the Big Ten (who is already strong). See the PAC commissioner’s remarks about boosting the on field product here: https://larrybrownsports.com/colleg...missioner-message-conference-struggles/578872

2. As others have said, they want more of a presence in the 11 am time slot, and received tons of push back by scheduling west coast kickoffs at 9 am local time. I don’t think we should underestimate the value of central time zone inventory to the PAC.

I’m thinking that our strengths line up better with the PAC-12 needs than the Big Ten, and we are among the best positioned “other 8” teams deliver the central time zone while also fielding a playoff caliber team.

I’ll be honest though, yesterday I felt about 30% good about our chance to end up in the only positive situation in this mess. And that’s the big10.

today? I feel about 5% good about it.

The Big Ten may also reach out to UT...what does it hurt at this point? And given that TAMU's BOR is meeting again to discuss the SEC realignment (which seems to indicate that they aren't happy with these recent developments), the Big Ten may reach out to TAMU as well.

I'd agree, UT and KU would be a great package add for B1G. And then OU could take OSU with to the SEC.

I would assume the problem is the LHN. If UT goes SEC, ESPN is happy to "merge" LHN and SECN and stop losing their shorts on the LHN. But if UT went to the B1G, then wtf do you do with the LHN? UT will want the revenue, but ESPN can't divert funds to UT by jumping up the SEC contract.

The more I think about this, the more it feels like ESPN is pushing this whole thing to get out of their LHN debacle without having to buy their way out entirely - using SECN to defray their costs.

It would be $20M or less, not the $35M it is today. Yes, both are below B1G and SEC, but a 40% revenue drop is checks notes... not good, Bob.

It would be above G5 money, but it would cause a lot of financial trouble for JP to clear up. He would get it done, but its still bad.

How many people in here believe any of these people writing these tweets and articles have any real sources? And if they have sources, that those sources have any real info?

Do any of us really think anyone outside the Athletic Director and President of each University, and the Commissioner of the Conferences have any knowledge of what really is going on?

Those people inside that circle are the only ones that know and those people are not spilling the beans at this point. Many times those same people will say the something different than what is going on just to throw people off the scent of what is actually happening. So many of these things I want to believe then so many I don't everything is all over the place.

Unfortunately I'm really starting to realize the media companies are eating this up, they know this is how they make money. Running with this stuff is generating all kinds of clicks for them. I to am just reaching for some real information, but unfortunately I am not sure we will get it unless it comes directly from JP himself.

Notre Dame will not make any changes. Their set up is perfect right now. They won’t leave the ACC because the ACC allows them to stay independent for football and they keep their entire network share with NBC. There is nothing the B1G provides other than better opponents but being independent they can control that themselves.

The one thing the B10 would provide ND is $$$$$......a lot of it. But ND doesn't seem to be motivated by that (at least they haven't shown that). They treat their lower revenues vs. their peers as the price of being an independent, which they covet. So I agree....with their priorities, they are in the perfect spot right now.
