Guess I never realized the NCAA accommodated BYU that much. crazy.

I think it's actually fairly simple to accommodate. Although one year the committee overlooked it had BYU in Fri/Sun slot and a bracketing placement had to be shuffled -- can't recall when that occurred (seems like early- to mid-00s).

Not really much of an accommodation. It just means they’re ineligible for potentially the best sites for them geographically if those sites are Fri-Sun. Half of the sites still work for them.

The committee is pretty careful to put BYU into the Thursday - Saturday draws in the Tournament

WBB is predominantly played on Sundays. K-State has played MBB as well. B12 Tournament used to end on Sundays. But it can certainly be managed. We don't need to make an issue of religion from crying out loud.

I grew up in NW Mo but went to BYU for school and have ended up staying out West, so no, I haven't been to the B12 BB tournament, but that looks to change here in a couple of years.

Better to keep TCU with Baylor in the East because that's a rivalry and ISU with the Kansas schools in the west for the same reason. Much better.

I don't know exactly, but I would think the general BYU population is probably closer to 85/15 Mormon to non (and it could be higher 90/10). The relatively strict honor code that includes alcohol and pre-marital sex is something that many don't want to deal with so that is part of what makes BYU quite different. Those same issues also limit the number of student-athletes that will consider coming and playing at BYU and I have no idea what the breakdown is on the football team (it's a lot lower than the general student population) and I know coach Pope (MBB) has a lot of non-LDS players.

You have to keep ISU/KU/Kstate together (Call it the north) and Okie St is going to want to stay with the Tx schools so Okie St/Tech/Baylor/TCU (Call it the south) together. Then, if true, It makes no sense to send Cincinnati and WV to Tx. So you add them to the north which makes 5. Then why wouldn't you have Houston play the other Texas schools to make 5? Ok well then we have UCF and BYU. Are you gonna have a school in Orlando, Florida play in the north? Uhm, no. So there is is your 6th southern team. And then finally you have BYU who by process of elimination goes to the north.

TL;DR Prepare to go to Provo more regularly than Stillwater.

You know, a north-south split wouldn’t be terrible … except for that BYU-WVU trip. And the fact that all the Texas schools would be in the same division.

I dunno, I don’t have any better ideas, with UCF and BYU being such geographical outliers I don’t think there is a great way to split it.

texas schools, OSU, and BYU. then the other 6. Allows the ISU/OSU championship to occur. also gives us our recruiting grounds we like.
