Here nor there
I know this has been discussed in-depth, but there are so many reasons why it would be a bad hire. The comments made over the past few hours only make him seem more undesirable as ISU's head coach.

What is wrong with Stoops?

Were you expecting some 5-star coach to want this job?

Stoops is winning at a very poor BCS school...

This is JP being a Ninja, Fulmer is the guy!

I like your thinking, I am on board with that. I caught the end of the Bama Bob segment on Marty & Miller today, when they were talking about Fulmer. I missed the beginning, so I'm not sure exactly how they got on the topic of Fulmer specifically, maybe Marty was just trying to steer the conversation clear of Stoops. Anyways, I liked Bama's take on Fulmer- he's at that age where he's got some good years left, but may not be necessarily looking to go anywhere else. He already has a national championship, and will just be looking to prove (to Tennessee) that he can still get it done. If he comes here and pulls us out of the gutter, ISU will explode and he will become a hero. We will treat him like a king and he can finish out his career here. See you tomorrow at the basketball game Phil!

I don't know whether Stoops is the guy or not, but why the hate thing with some of our fans. The guy was a coordinator on a national championship Oklahoma team, took over a down program at a basketball school and has them in a decent bowl game with BYU (I know it's his 5th year), and the Stoops name is huge in the Big 12 region, Iowa, and probably in Ohio. He's known as tough, intense and high energy, and would be highly motivated at ISU to compete with his brother, plus he's got Iowa ties (I think his wife is from Iowa). I think he had an OWI once (not sure about that) but what's not to like about the guy?

Another thing I've been wondering- I know it's important to all of the news guys to be the one who "breaks the news", but does anyone REALLY remember who first breaks the news? Who broke the news when we got Cheezit? I know I will probably hear about it on CF, so I could care less which news station breaks it.

With supposed interest from a former coach at Tennessee who had a total of 2 losing seasons and won a national title while recruiting 4-5 star football players every year...hiring Stoops would obviously be a little annoying with that information on the table.

Why doesn't Stoops kill this story and say that he is not a candidate for the position rather than respond "no comment?"

He is either trying to get more money from Arizona or he really is a candidate. If he is trying to get more money, its a crappy way to go about it since his team is preparing for a bowl game and the diversion can't help.

This is what I wonder about some of the other names being thrown into consideration, like Fulmer. There have been some good leads to indicate that Fulmer is at least entertaining the idea. If he wasn't interested, why not just come out and say so.

Yes, I was. Didn't work out. Stoops is exactly one win away from being fired at AZ (beat ASU). I would rather go with either a proven older winner ie. Mason, Price, etc. or a younger up and comer like Calhoun, Graham, or Holtz. Bottom line, there are better candidates than Stoops.

Yeah, I don't get why some of our fans hate the idea of Stoops. He has Big XII ties, is a midwest guy and turned around AZ and has them in their first bowl in 10 years. Sounds like a good hire to me. I like that better than Fulmer, who is near retirement, failed to beat a crappy UCLA team and pretty much anyone in the SEC while basically dominating recruiting in a talent-rich state. If Fulmer couldn't get it done with all the talent, facilities and support he had at UT, how could he possibly do it in Ames?

You and I must have a different definition for the term "turned around AZ"
