By the numbers - not winning in the margins

Coach keeps saying "we have to win in the margins - that's just the way it will be ". That means always.
He is saying the talent will never be there.

What would the record be without a future pro running back ?

Ok but they consistently had a 80-yard field in front of them when they took possession vs. Iowa, while Iowa consistently had a 50-yard in front of them when they took possession. Congrats for having more total yards I guess but if you actually look at what happened it's just because Iowa's D dominated with turnovers and Iowa's ST dominated with field position.

It can simultaneously be true that Iowa's offense didn't need to be good and wasn't capable of being good vs. ISU. In fact, everybody that understands football would draw this conclusion.

Gotta say I don't like his comment about at Iowa State we'll always have to win in the margins. That's like saying no coach could ever get enough talent here - hopefully I'm hearing something that isn't there but this smacks of CPR type comments.
He's frustrated that's for sure, but so is everyone else. Time for him to get it fixed IMO. The win in the margins thing is so tired when we play like crap on special teams all the time.

You are hearing it correctly. Disappointed to say the least. He didn't have to go there.

this is an overlooked topic...and you are correct. Baylor helped us a LOT...and we still managed to not finish properly.

I'm not quite sure about this. While yes, they helped us out a lot. I don't recall any 3rd and 20's that were helped by a PI or roughing the passer penalty. Most that I remember were an extra 15 yards on what was already a 1st down play. Not exactly bailing us out.

Probably 2-2 because even though he had a good game the other day it didn't really matter and the other games he wasn't really relevant other than a focal point for the D.

To be fair. Alabama really struggled in special teams in the early Nick Saban years. They missed FGs left and right, gave up Kickoffs for TDs regularly and had mediocre punting. They finally figured it out, so there is hope for the Campbell Regime!
Incoming ISU six-time national champions confirmed.

I'm just having fun with this post for a bit. I thought of another parallel between the two programs. We're definitely winning it all baby! Still love you @AlaCyclone, you always keep your head up and chest out for us, and that's what we need right now.

Are you really expecting ISU to have Alabama-level recruiting classes? That's all he's saying. We're not going to be able to line up against teams and just expect to win based on superior talent. Against the top teams, we'll have talent sufficient to be competitive, but to win we'll have to outplay and out-execute them. We're a blue-collar team, not a Blue Blood team. We did that very well on defense and showed significant improvement on offense. We need to bring the special teams and red zone offense along.

Maybe you all should put together a class-action lawsuit. CMC has failed to fulfill the terms of his contract. We are ENTITLED to so much more.

Lol. Nice. Not upset at all, but whatshisface saying 'it's hard to lose' that game with those stats is just pretty limpminded. Love the Beavis reference though.

Special teams and turnovers are part of the game. ISU has failed at those parts of the game massively.

It’s frustrating to be 2-2 when no offense has outperformed our defense. Baylor had some success but as usual it was first half success and they hung on in the second half completely via special teams.

These facts don’t mean ISU fans think they are better that your Hawkeyes. It’s something 100% of fans of any team would be frustrated by.
