This is about the only defensible rationale. If you have realized he isn't the guy, that he isn't up to the task, then yeah its time to move on. But even if that is the case, does it really do much good to fire him with 4 games left?

Maybe if you think Cumbie might be the guy, a la Ryan Day, and you want to give him a low-risk test drive; I suppose that might make sense. If he wins a game or two against the remaining schedule, you could maybe get the fan base to buy in.

I mean, I agree. All I can think of is trying to identify and make in-roads with the people you select before too many more schools fire their coach. They wont be competing with LSU and USC, but I'm sure there will be a large number of mid-level schools fighting for the same group of5-10 up-and-coming coaches. So maybe it makes sense to start that process sooner rather than later.

Not sure why some of you are shocked....Texas Tech while yes, they are 5-3, will probably lose the remainder of their games and they've shown no improvement in the time he's been in Lubbock...Texas Tech fans know the insides of the program better than we do obviously and they've clearly seen enough. The rumored replacements are quality
Can’t take some of the fans on here too serious. There’s a contingent of our fans like Curt that thought firing Paul Rhoads and Steve Prohm was too soon.

Fine but you Iowa homers are comparing it to freaking FD, CB and Carter Lake. A real live city, even a crappy one, with a few hundred thousand people is not a tiny farm burg.

It’s definitely not comparable to the small ones in size, but almost two thirds of Iowa’s population lives in larger markets than Lubbock so your implication above is dead wrong.

Further, I don’t think anyone is implying it’s similar to those in size listed. Likely referring to quality of life and things to do, or a lack thereof. Everyone I’ve ever talked to from the state of Texas has been consistent in saying that Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere and that it would be a terrible place to live.

Honestly, I get it. They have no idea where they’re going to end up when this whole conference realignment thing finally is settled in a few years. Make the change now and hope you can strike gold where you can promise future to other conferences.
