What I have liked about Gabe is that he hasn’t hung his head even though his three ball hasn’t been going down. He has continued to play hard and impact the game. He has also looked for shots in the mid range.
Kalscheur can’t throw the ball in the ocean and is sloppy with the ball, but he makes up for it in other ways. I like the effort, ball movement, defense, etc. Hopefully shots start to fall for him. He’s getting pretty good looks.
I’m going to have to go with Hunter easilyHe looks like a seasoned veteran on both ends of the floor. It’s only been 2 games but at this point I would feel most comfortable with the ball in his hands on a final possession.
Tyrese Hunter. Then everybody else. Wait until he gets settled into D1 college basketball.
A Cato with maybe 10% of the athleticism.![]()
I agree…. he’s easily the most talented player we have…. just needs to get a few more games under his belt and get more comfortable.
I will say, our forward made a huge improvement from the first game. I want to see Conditt learn to play major minutes without fouling out. He’s made big strides in his overall game.
Yes, and Cato was a real banger on the offensive glass, Conditt was more than just serviceable last night.
Kalscheur does not appear to be a great shooter, but I didn't really have a problem with any of the shots he took. I thought they were all good looks for the most part. The issue with this team is I would say we only have two "good" shooters. Grill and Jackson. That's going to leave a lot a 3s taken by mediocre shooters (Kalscheur, Brockington, Hunter, Enaruna, Kunc). That's just how it's going to be. The solution is to take less threes and try to get to the basket, but that's easier said than done when the other team knows that's what you want to do. We're going to have to live with those guys taking threes and hope they make enough of them.
It's like when teams play zone against us and we settle for 3's and I hear fans screaming to "get the ball inside!!". If it were that easy to score inside against a zone defense, no one would ever play zone.
I think a concerning stat is our turnovers. That has to go down for us to be successful going forward.
Kalschur or Brockington, take your pick. They are our two best players, as I would expect them to be. Two veteran, proven P5 players. He looks like a seasoned veteran on both ends of the floor. I would not say Tre is our best player, but he has been outstanding as back up point guard.I am on Team Tre, but I’m not sure a career 31% average from 3 really sets him apart from the rest of the team. I think he’ll get better as he gets better looks, but right now this is a team with many OK shooters but no great ones.
Re: the zone… we really looked helpless, but I think that can be fixed schematically/with practice. A lot of guys making the right cut at the wrong time. But ISU also had multiple possessions (or at least it felt like it) where the shot was the first time the ball crossed the 3 point line. Even if your point guard is Steph Curry, that’s not an effective way to score.
