I was dead wrong. I thought we would lose by 7 and get down by 10 or more early in the first half. I was 100% wrong and am glad to eat crow. Solid game.
There was so much fools gold in that "close" loss to Purdue. There is nothing more overrated in sports that a team getting stomped, then making a late charge to make it close. It is nearly meaningless, yet people act like it is a useful indicator. The other factor is everyone was buying that Purdue was not just the best team in the country, but they were clearly the best team. That's a really good Purdue team. And Iowa fighting back was impressive, but in the end it's just another backdoor cover that doesn't really mean much.
This is not a bad Iowa team, but it's sort of the most extreme Fran team ever, where it's mostly just a bunch of OK players, and no clear cut roles and rotations. Murray is a very good player, but ISU's defense was absolutely dominant.
I've been on the "this team plays as hard as any on defense since Floyd's teams," but I was wrong. This team plays harder. Favorite sequence of the night was late in the game, and Iowa has the ball. There's a loose ball at the top of the key, and Hunter full on superman dives for it going toward half court but Iowa retains possession. Immediately there is another loose ball and Hunter comes back and dives again to get a jump ball (IIRC).
5 star culture play right there.

I’m thrilled we won and all but ca
Kenpom is useless for a team like Iowa State because last years data is still heavily weighted. Kenpom can't properly evaluate a team with such a massive swing so i would ignore their rankings until we are about half way through conference play.,
I was a little nervous at the beginning when we were trading blows at the beginning. Thought it was going to be one of those close nail biters we’ve seen in this game.
Remember Iowa was up 15-11, then Tre knocked down a 3 to finally get the offense going. That started something like a 13-2 run and we never really looked back.
Totally agree with this. The defense was tight on Murray and Bohannon and any shooter Iowa brought in off the bench. But even when Murray and Bobo would get free and have an open look, they seemed to hurry their shots a little bit even though they didn't have to. That contributed to their poor shooting as well. The thing I loved most from last night? We got into their heads on defense.
After the last few years of losing this game handily, it’s nice to be on the other side of the mental chess.
Effort and mild defensive success will piss off teams who aren't mentally-strong. We'll see more of this. And it's an area our team excels so far -- we never quit and never stop playing. The thing I loved most from last night? We got into their heads on defense.

A few things:
I've said it before and I'll say it again, outside of injuries ISU is a single digit seed in the tourney and please no one dumb me anymore.
With that kiss to the students it's apparent that for the last 7 years Georges Niang has been living rent free in Jblow's head. And the guy needs to get some help.

It's insane to me that we held a ~90 PPG team to 53 points last night. A 25 PPG player was held under 10 points. We had more offensive rebounds than they did defensive.
Almost nonsensical.
they dont start that show until the middle of JanuaryI have my doubts that they’ll do this on NYD with football, but if we’re undefeated that Baylor game could get a good amount of hype.
