Have you ever been embarrassed to wear Cyclone Gear?

I had a 12 hours stretch after losing to the Hawks when our guy ran into the punt returner. That was about the first time and only time I was embarrassed at the bar having State gear on.

I will never be embarrassed to wear a shirt/hat/etc. of my alma matter.

Would you be embarrassed to give your child a ride home after a bad game? Sorry bud, you're walkin'.

Haven't read through all 5 pages but just wanted to say I have more ISU gear than about any other type of clothing and I've worn it proudly since high school and I graduated in late 80's from high school. Would say if they made that statement, they have no clue about the resiliency of Iowa State Fans.

Multiple ISU tats here, never embarrassed. Other than the earliest one fading and being off center on my arm;. The 70's football Cy that Dan at Yankee Doodle did is amazing! I had a vision to do that whole arm in ISU logos, but kind of abandoned that (for now.)
I have the Cy leaning on the "I" tatt.... except the letter "I" is bordered with RED, not black. No f**king way was I going to have a tatt with the "I" looking like the Hoks.

Never.

We have had teams that were an embarrassment. But Iowa St is bigger than that.

Congratulations CMC and GE, you’re not an embarrassment.

This is an example of why older coaches, like Snyder and Knight, learned to loathe the media. Taking crap out of context for no reason other than yellow journalism, to stir the pot.

I didn't read much of this thread because the subject is so disgusting. CMC and his players love ISU. What they meant to say was worded poorly. Good lord.

Maybe this has been mentioned in the thread already, but…

I went to ISU in the early 90’s during a…not so bright period of Cyclone football and I can tell you that walking around campus it was pretty rare to see anyone wearing Iowa State gear. You’d see Notre Dame, Florida State, the U… but definitely not a lot of Cyclone stuff. I haven’t been to Ames in years but I’ve got to believe that it’s a different story today.

That being said, I’m proud to wear my ISU stuff and will happily share with anyone the multitude of reasons they should cheer for the Clones.

I was there in the mid 90s and would frequently joke, "Where's the big pile of ISU shirts they're giving away? Everyone is wearing one..." I was always too cool for the room :jimlad:

Eisworth's exact quote below. I take it to apply more to the football players themselves, and I can see that. If you go 1-10, are you proud to wear ISU football gear and be associated with that team. I mean, broad picture, EVERY player that makes a D1 team is extremely talented and should be proud, but as fans we always want more.

Shoot, dictionary says it means you are someone who makes you a better version of yourself, but where I’m from when you are called a penguin, it means you are stingy. Penguins have short wings and therefore don’t stretch out to give. If you ain’t going to donate to your school then please don’t preach to us on how much you spent on your education. We all did and it was not a waste of money. Quit acting like you were not getting anything in return.

Oooooookay, bud. Take a deep breath. I just don‘t like wearing red or yellow and outside of watching football and basketball and occasionally venting on these forums, college is well in my rear view mirror.

Do you sell ISU gear or something? You seem disproportionately offended lol.

In Stansbury's article, both Eisworth and Campbell said not that long ago before they were here that people were embarrassed to wear a cyclone shirt or hat. I know what there trying to say but I think this comes off poorly. I've been a cyclone fan since 85-86 and I don't ever remember being embarrassed to wear anything Cyclone gear. Many times I've been disappointed or let down, but not embarrassed. I also am an alumnus so maybe that's part of the reason for me.

To me, it is kind of the pervasive attitude in society, "that nothing mattered until I showed up". I think it is somewhat disrespectful to the players and fans that have been here for awhile. Maybe its just the word embarrassed, thoughts?

No. Dumb statement (if accurate) and really unnecessary.
