Iowa State losing to Drake in the 80's, totally embarrassed.
That Drake Game a 21-17 Loss came after a 59-21...(1984) Beat Down in JTS by the Hoks.

I ATTENDED BOTH GAMES...This might have been the Lowest Point In ISU Football History IMHO!!

Post-game comments about once being a "laughingstock" have popped up more than once this year. Feels like comments are being used to deflect attention and criticism for 2021 disappointments. Grateful for the foundation this coach, staff and players have built in the football program. It's been a blast being part of this (2017 is still my favorite year of the six so far). However, if our past is fair game for criticism, doesn't there have to be a little embarrassment about being pre-season top 10 and ending up way outside the final top 25?
NO way to defend this season as a Major Disappointment...LOSING TO IOWA CONSISTENTLY DOES NOT HELP...

I was a little embarrassed when a coach said being the best versions of ourselves was the goal for the team.

Reluctant to wear the logo? Pretty arrogant and mis-informed statement. State fans have been loyal sons long before Campbell arrived. Johnny Orr did plenty to stoke the Cyclone fires. From what I understand, fan enthusiasm is one of the things that attracted CMC.

I never owned any Cyclone gear in college because I had no money. After graduating, anything ISU was scarace in eastern Iowa, but I finally purchased an Iowa State jacket that I wore proudly as a resident of Iowa City (my wife was interning there), and purchased a sweatshirt with the "new" twister logo during Criner era. Then, added a Starter jacket with the "bird-in-a-blender" logo to my collection during the Mac years. Today, my closet is full of cardinal and gold.

I grew up through some tough times of Iowa State athletics especially football and not once have I ever been embarrassed.... Heck dealt with some heckling over the years for wearing it at times but still wore it and defended it . I think a lot of CMC but with him to keep saying this I fear he doesn't understand a very loyal long term fans that have never been embarrassed to show our pride . Yes there have been times of frustrations or the times that we got our asses kicked and it sucks and sick of getting kicked in the stones.

I haven't read the whole thread. I thought he was talking about players on the team not wearing ISU gear around. Of course Ross Peterson has no problem spending 20 minutes twisting Campbell's words into a segment.

I grew up in Western IA, graduated in 82, left the state and moved back (to Eastern IA) in 1889. That was I believe year 12 of the 15 game win streak and I was amazed how fricking in sufferable Hawk fans were at that point.

I still wore ISU gear on a regular basis and quickly found out that if you start asking questions to Hawk fans about their own program or other Big 10 teams most will shut up and slink away.

NEVER have I worn Hawkeye gear, and two of my children have gone to U of I.

NEVER have I been embarrassed to wear Cyclone gear and I have been a fan since the early 1970s and a 1988 graduate.
Sorry to hear your kids chose the Dark Side.... But glad to hear you stuck with ISU through and through.

In Stansbury's article, both Eisworth and Campbell said not that long ago before they were here that people were embarrassed to wear a cyclone shirt or hat. I know what there trying to say but I think this comes off poorly. I've been a cyclone fan since 85-86 and I don't ever remember being embarrassed to wear anything Cyclone gear. Many times I've been disappointed or let down, but not embarrassed. I also am an alumnus so maybe that's part of the reason for me.

To me, it is kind of the pervasive attitude in society, "that nothing mattered until I showed up". I think it is somewhat disrespectful to the players and fans that have been here for awhile. Maybe its just the word embarrassed, thoughts?
Gotta admit, some of the gear with the blue color was a bit embarrassing to wear, but I still wore it.

This thread is terrible. What would be embarrassing is if Eisworth read this thread. Clearly was an emotional situation they were in and it wasn’t scripted. Give them a break. Eisworth said it, Campbell repeated it. There wasn’t anything meant by it. I really dislike how we are throwing guys under the bus like this, Eisworth is a great Cyclone and he was pretty clearly emotional and reacting to a long career and what they accomplished. Stop being offended by everything, it wasn’t a big deal. Honestly I can’t believe this is even a subject. This thread should be closed.

Well, you commented on it. Clearly, your reaction was an emotional response to our emotional responses. Stop being offended by others' offenses.
