Another negative vote, in that I've never been embarrassed to advertise my ISU affiliation. I've lived in Iowa City since 1998, wear ISU clothes frequently and had ISU vanity plates for many years. Loyal son forever true...
In Stansbury's article, both Eisworth and Campbell said not that long ago before they were here that people were embarrassed to wear a cyclone shirt or hat. I know what there trying to say but I think this comes off poorly. , thoughts?
This thread is terrible. What would be embarrassing is if Eisworth read this thread. Clearly was an emotional situation they were in and it wasn’t scripted. Give them a break. Eisworth said it, Campbell repeated it. There wasn’t anything meant by it. I really dislike how we are throwing guys under the bus like this, Eisworth is a great Cyclone and he was pretty clearly emotional and reacting to a long career and what they accomplished. Stop being offended by everything, it wasn’t a big deal. Honestly I can’t believe this is even a subject. This thread should be closed.
Got ourselves a time traveler.
Gotta admit, some of the gear with the blue color was a bit embarrassing to wear, but I still wore it.
1. I think most people that post on this board aren't embarrassed to be Iowa State fans. But we aren't most fans.
2. Growing up in Eastern Iowa in the late 80's/early 90's, my family was really the only Iowa State family in my school, so I'm not sure I was embarrassed to be an Iowa State fan, but I definitely didn't wear Iowa State clothes to school (until I got a really cool sweatshirt in 5th grade and decided that I was good being the only Iowa State fan in my class).
3. Most importantly, you have to take these Campbell comments in context. I sincerely believe that most of the comments Campbell has made about how bad the program was before he got here are comments for the team. I think he feels worse than he lets on that all of these good players came back and had a disappointing season. I think he feels like he let them down. I think he wants them to be proud of what they did and what they accomplished. Campbell saying people were embarrassed to be seen in Iowa State clothes isn't aimed at the fans or the media, it's aimed at his players.
Where'd you grow up?
So much this. Sioux City was dripping with Nebbie and Iowa fans. The tide has turned quite a bit.Embarrassed? No.
But it was pretty goddamn hard to proudly sport the gear in the 80s and 90s, living in an area that was mostly populated by SUI and UNL people.
I will never be embarrassed to wear a shirt/hat/etc. of my alma matter.
Would you be embarrassed to give your child a ride home after a bad game? Sorry bud, you're walkin'.
..... Campbell saying people were embarrassed to be seen in Iowa State clothes isn't aimed at the fans or the media, it's aimed at his players.
