Have you ever been embarrassed to wear Cyclone Gear?

In Stansbury's article, both Eisworth and Campbell said not that long ago before they were here that people were embarrassed to wear a cyclone shirt or hat. I know what there trying to say but I think this comes off poorly. , thoughts?

Never have been embarrassed.
I think Campbell meant well but this came off poorly as did his comment earlier this season that winning the Big12 was ever a goal for this team. His "coach speak" grows tiresome and I often find myself defending him to non ISU fans. I'm sure that "version of themselves" will be replaced by something just as eye-rolling next fall. That being said, I wouldn't trade Campbell for any other coach and hope we are able to keep him leading our team for many years.

This thread is terrible. What would be embarrassing is if Eisworth read this thread. Clearly was an emotional situation they were in and it wasn’t scripted. Give them a break. Eisworth said it, Campbell repeated it. There wasn’t anything meant by it. I really dislike how we are throwing guys under the bus like this, Eisworth is a great Cyclone and he was pretty clearly emotional and reacting to a long career and what they accomplished. Stop being offended by everything, it wasn’t a big deal. Honestly I can’t believe this is even a subject. This thread should be closed.

This is 100% true. People are obviously commenting without actually seeing the video of Greg's comments and Matt's comments. They were specifically talking about the FOOTBALL program and how the players in the program can now wear the Iowa State logo with pride.

We now have a nationally relevant football program. If any of you say you were proud of our football program prior to Matt arriving, you are kidding yourself or you are only recalling very brief moments in time over the life of the program. We were not that much different than Kansas is now. Many considered this one of the worst coaching jobs in all of football. Matt changed that. We have played Wash St, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Clemson in bowls the last four years. We played for the conference championship last year. Game Day has been to Ames twice. Never have these things happened before in our lifetimes. The wording could have been better, but everyone needs to chill out. Matt will take this program to even greater places if we don't run him off over stupid little **** like this.

I’d assume most people on this site wouldn’t be embarrassed to wear Cyclone gear, and within the last year years most fair weather fans wouldn’t be either. But I’d assume before the last few years most “common” fans would be selective on when they wore it.

1. I think most people that post on this board aren't embarrassed to be Iowa State fans. But we aren't most fans.

2. Growing up in Eastern Iowa in the late 80's/early 90's, my family was really the only Iowa State family in my school, so I'm not sure I was embarrassed to be an Iowa State fan, but I definitely didn't wear Iowa State clothes to school (until I got a really cool sweatshirt in 5th grade and decided that I was good being the only Iowa State fan in my class).

3. Most importantly, you have to take these Campbell comments in context. I sincerely believe that most of the comments Campbell has made about how bad the program was before he got here are comments for the team. I think he feels worse than he lets on that all of these good players came back and had a disappointing season. I think he feels like he let them down. I think he wants them to be proud of what they did and what they accomplished. Campbell saying people were embarrassed to be seen in Iowa State clothes isn't aimed at the fans or the media, it's aimed at his players.

Obviously, CMC was not embarrassed to become the coach at ISU. Relax, tight underwear is adjustable just like the perceived meaning of their comment.

I graduated from the same school as Ben Bruns....by the time I hit high school there were a few more Iowa State fans around. But there never really were many.

Embarrassed? No.

But it was pretty goddamn hard to proudly sport the gear in the 80s and 90s, living in an area that was mostly populated by SUI and UNL people.
So much this. Sioux City was dripping with Nebbie and Iowa fans. The tide has turned quite a bit.

Agree CMC was referring to the players, but how long does he need bring this up? We're going into year seven.
Nobody is disputing how hard the remarkable turn around he brought to the Ames has been.
