Curious if we have to be at all worried about hunter transferring to Murray state? Prohm recruited him and is very good with point guards.

I don't think it's a worry given hunters Midwest roots. But worth a discussion.
A budding star in the big 12 isn't transferring down to the MVC. Hunter could have went anywhere else after Prohm left and he chose not to.

3-20+ win seasons
2-conference tourney titles
3-ncaa invites
1-sweet 16

It will be interesting seeing Steve Prohm succeed his long time assistant at Murray State who was an instrumental part of Prohm’s success at Murray State. McMahon has taken over at LSU after being successful at Murray State after Prohm.

McMahon leaves a roster which should have a lot of returning talent. McMahon leaves a Championship Roster that returns. Prohm inherits a championship team.

Here’s Coach McMahon and his bio.

Murray is probably going to lose their top 7 guys when all is said and done. A rebuild on top of a huge step up in leagues is quite the challenge for Prohm.

He'll be fine but it's not going to be completely smooth.

Why are they leaving? Looks like mostly underclassmen.

Chiz is the only ex coach who can go **** himself. Not that I wanted him to stay but I never remotely liked the guy to begin with. I have a feeling I would not have liked the program we’d have become if he stayed longer.

Almost all the others seem like great guys. CPR especially I always liked as a guy and think he did some real things here.
I would add Criner to this list. We have had bad coaches before and after, but he had players who he enabled to be bad people in the community with no repercussions from his program, he had a losing program but cheated anyway which ensured that the following coaching staff was hamstrung from day 1.

Definitely agree with this, not to mention the fact he has his dickhead son on the team. What a prick that kid was.

How many with

Fred’s players?

The default position with those who have Prohm living rent free in their head.

So Hunter had nothing to do with any of the 22 wins this year? You want to diminish what TJ did by going down that route?

Murray didn't advance their class years so they're all actually a year older. Looks like three may follow McMahon. Two others just in the portal. Two others going pro.

So they don’t want to stay and play for Prohm at Murray State?
To follow up @Stormin , what exactly does your first sentence mean? I didn’t realize that decision was up to the individual institutions.

My bad, it's not clear.

Due to the COVID year, they just froze what year of eligibility their players are on the roster. Most schools moved their rosters forward as normal, Murray (and a few others) did not. So, realistically, they're all a year older than they appear.

Ah okay. I actually did realize schools handled that differently but forgot that. Which made it confusing as hell.

TJ had to seek out and gain a recommitment.

That's a lot different from established guys approaching the ends of NCAA careers who would have to sit a full year if they chose to go elsewhere. They were locked in. Credit to Steve for keeping Monte on board for an extra year

We are seeing a different scenario play out at Murray where the sit out year no longer exists and the returning crew is quickly becoming quite small.

Hunter had a signed LOI with Iowa State. There was already a bond established between him and the program, and like it or not, Prohm's regime established that bond. Put it this way, if Prohm hadn't recruited Hunter at all, what's the chance that he would be an Iowa State Cyclone today?
Is there any chance? Slim at best, right? At best.
Have to give credit where credit is due, and Prohm deserves some credit for signing Hunter. Not all of it, mind you. But without Prohm, there's very little chance that Hunter is wearing Cardinal and Gold this year.

If I had to bet... I would bet he is <.400 in conference play over the next 4 years. I just think as a head coach he is the epitome of the Peter Principle. He'd be much better off as an asst for somebody.

Great article on Hunter‘s recruitment.
