What's the big deal with Basile? Yeah he's 6'9" but he doesn't look long or athletic. He looks like your typical old fashion post player.

From the videos I've seen, he can handle the ball fairly well for his size and has a good stroke from three. Lower efficiency from deep this year but on much higher volume, year before shot it extremely well when he wasn't relied on to do it as much. Plus, he played really well against P6 teams. Could be a really good fit if we see the offense run a lot through the post up at the top of the key again, given that Basile could do a lot more with the ball than Conditt or Jones.

Not that surprising. The style they play used to stand out and be an abrupt change to the rest of the B12. Nowadays, basically every team is playing aggressive defense and that advantage is no longer there. Unless Huggy retires I can't imagine them looking anywhere else, but I can't think fans are necessarily full of hope at this point.
I think Huggy's cachet isn't as strong as it used to be. Without it, he's just a grump at best, and an ***hole. It's got to be tough to play for him even when they're winning, but if you're losing... I can see why players might not want to stick around

Numbers arent great but NC State fans seem pretty devastated over him leaving

I read an article about Bates transferring. They mentioned he was 4th in career blocks after just 2 seasons at NC State.

He can step out and hit the 3, he can initiate the offense, can take his man off the dribble at the top of the key and attack the basket, and he has a great back to the basket game. Have you watched his highlights yet?

ISU's entire offensive strategy on every half court possession revolved around the big men holding the ball in the high post and allowing our guards to try and get open/create mismatches off the ball. Having an actual offensive threat in the high post (Jones/Conditt were not this) would exponentially improve our offense next season

I think Fran probably put his 14 year old son on pace to graduate high school this spring, so he can fill a spot on the hawk roster next fall.

Yeah I was hoping we'd get some athletes and move away from that

Agree. I'm hoping it's a smaller part of the offense moving forward, as it feels like it was a desperation move to make some sort of space under the basket.

IMO, that's exactly what we need. Offensively we need a stretch 5 who can run a high-post offense or a pick and roll and have a threat to pop to the 3pt line and be a threat. That pulls his defender out of the lane and lets Hunter or whomever get a better path to the hoop.

The key will be to have a big who can play that role and defend the post.

Watch any of the final 4 this weekend, they all run actions with a high post, often as a handoff (because you get to pass the ball and screen at the same time). It's how the game is played today. Having a plus passer in that position is a huge help to the offense.

They just run it much more effectively that we did this year.

He reminds me of Niang and we need a guy that can play the high post like Niang did.

Not sure it was desperation as a lot of teams run plays through their post guys. Heck, ISU even did it back in the day with Georges Niang.

If he is a good passer, can hit a 15-18 foot jumper & put the ball on the floor- Basile is exactly what we need. Looking at his stats from last season he makes close to 60% of his 2pt shots, but only 28% of his 3's. So if we are looking for the 2nd coming of Georges- probably not. But he at least looks like he can finish in the paint. Plus he shot 78% from the line.

Sounds like a skilled big man to me. Just a matter if his skills can translate to the Big12.

Game Against Cleveland State - Yes PLEASE!

True. Just felt like an awkward fit as neither George nor Rob are great at the things you would want from your 5 running that stuff.

As for Basile, he hit the 3 at a much higher rate (47%!) the year prior on lower volume. I'd expect that to be closer to his role here if he came here and is recent enough to believe he can shoot hopefully 35%+. Plus, he really seems comfortable with the ball in his hands which is a skill that this year's team struggled with at times. Absolutely would love the fit for a lot of reasons.
