My Bad, please disregard.

Not sure if this name has been discussed, just wondering if anyone has heard anything about PR being interested in Tom Myslinski being our Strength and Conditioning Coach. I've heard he was offered the position (no source or link so don't crucify me) pending other NFL squads who have interest. PR and Myslinski worked at Pitt at the same time. Thoughts?

Coaching Background:

1996 University of North Florida, volunteer head strength and conditioning coach 1998-2001 University of Pittsburgh, volunteer assistant strength and conditioning coach 2002-03 Cleveland Browns, part-time assistant strength and conditioning coach 2004 Cleveland Browns, assistant strength and conditioning coach 2005-06 Robert Morris University, head strength and conditioning coach 2007 University of Pittsburgh, assistant strength and conditioning coach 2007-08 Cleveland Browns, head strength and conditioning coach

Rumor is he's been offered and he is awaiting any "better" gigs with other NFL teams. I'd say the majority of us are excited to get him.

I asked this on another thread but is an NFL S&C job really better than a college one? I'm sure it is much less work as most of the guys have their own personal guys they work with for most of the year but do they still get paid more than college guys?

Just did a quick search for NFL strength coach salaries. I couldn't log in to the site because it requires membership, but came up with this little clip: "NFL Head Strength Coach – Between $90000 and $185000 + benefits. Note that salaries vary dependent upon years of practice, education level, ..."

I found Shep's salary here: DesMoinesRegister.com | State Salaries | The Des Moines Register

Looks like he made $110,000 in '08, so not a whole lot of difference.

Here is an off the wall suggestion, probably in more of an assistant S&C role, but how about Demathdian Tate. He currently works at Aspen and designed their Elite Athletic Preformance program. Played football and baseball in college and worked for the Los Angeles Dodgers Strength and Conditioning for 6 years and his brother wrestled at ISU.

Not excited if he is contemplating something else. Get someone that would be excited to be at ISU

If this is true, at least this is a MAN that is waiting to accept the ISU offer if other better offers come along.

He is not some pretender (I'd rather use a different word starting with a 'p' and is used sometimes when referring to....cats) who takes a lot of people along for a ride.

In retrospect, PR needed to make a strength coach his first hire. The players are now two weeks behind from a physical development standpoint. You have such a limited time to work with these players until Spring Ball starts. Hope he can land someone this weekend.

Hope it's not Myslinski. Several comments out there in Cleve. Browns blogs about how Mangini is looking to up the intensity and discipline in the S/C program.

Come on. You don't think the kids are working out right now? Here's a shocker: There isn't much difference between any strength and conditioning coaches. Some have personaity. Some are more military. Some focus more on flexibility, etc. They all have the same goal of making their athletes the best athletes they can be. The kids are working out as hard today as they would be if the 'new' coach was here. They might just have a few different techniques to learn.

Totally agree...S&C is not rocket science. Just get a guy in there that can motivate the players. This seems to be the most overrated hire of the whole staff around here.

You're right

Tell that to Urban Meyer:

COACH URBAN MEYER: Recruit, and hire a tremendous strength coach. Dan knows, a lot of times I'll hear about these coaches or I'll talk to some young coaches and put their staff together and I'll ask the question about the strength staff, about the discipline in your program and those things. He hired our former strength coach who was at Virginia and now he's at Mississippi State, so he just hit a home run. He's got a chance now, and I would say Dan had zero chance if he couldn't hire an ace strength staff that can keep that thing together. The strength staff in college football nowadays, if you're -- you guys should watch this. If a guy gets hired and puts that, I'm going to hire a strength coach later, that's a guy that has no clue what's going on, and he'll fail. Dan Mullen has got a chance because he knows the value of the strength staff, so he hit a home run. And then obviously recruiting, he's got to get out and get quality players and hire a staff to recruit. I think Dan is going to do fine. Dan is a very intelligent coach and he'll surround himself -- all great coaches know how to surround themselves with great coaches, and we had great discussions, long discussions about it, and he feels very comfortable with the people he's putting together on his coaching staff.

To say that all s&c coaches are the same and that it is not an important hire prove how little you know about football and s&c. I have played college football and been in the coaching profession. I have seen s&c coaches who
1. start a workout right on time. If you're 1 sec. late, you make it up at 6 am the next day.
2. everything must be done 100% perfect or you do it over again.
3. Plan the workouts 4 weeks in advance and use scientific periodization

And I have seen s&c coaches who
1. do not take attendance. THey don't even no when someone skips a lift.
2. Guys can come to a workout 15 minutes late and not be punished.
3. Write the workout on the marker board (and think it up) after the players have finished the warm up.

So, you think that both of those coaches are just as good? That's like saying all lawyers are just as good. THey all have a law degree and fancy books. Some people put a lot more time and effort into their jobs than other people, plan and simple.
