Duh!
Agreed. I watched a good portion of that Iowa game on replay. SDSU was successful because they had 7 in the box constantly and brought pressure. Our 3 linemen, 2 linebacker scheme gives us only 5 in the box on many plays. That plays into Iowa's hands if you ask me and allows them to get 3 to 6 yard running chunks continuously and does not get to their QB with blitzes and hits.

You can't argue with the results Heacock and Campbell have had collectively and the "bend don't break defense", but the Iowa game is the one where I wish they'd force Iowa to pass and bring pressure. I admit I'm cynical and don't believe anything will change, but I hope this is the week they change that strategy and play like SDSU did. Holding Iowa to 3 points on offense should do it. I'm afraid though we'll see the typical Heacock game plan with only 5 in the box, blitzes on only 10% of plays (often an FBS low) and Iowa will slow the game down with fewer possessions and be able to run successfully.

Our defense this year is not as good as last year (SEMO just got over 320 yards against us) and I think our best chance is to change the scheme to try and shut down Iowa with pressure and many in the box. Fingers' crossed.
3-3-5…don’t we have three LBs?

I think Dekkers presents a new problem for the Hawkeyes that they have not had to deal with in several years. The ISU offense under Purdy was played within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage most of the time and I think we're already seeing from game one that the offense this year is confident using more of the field, although SEMO was not much of a test.

Michigan torched Iowa through the air in the championship game last year and in their bowl game against Kentucky (also an L), one guy went off for 170 on them. If you can get big chunks on them, you can neutralize some of what makes them effective defensively and reverse their special teams advantage. My main question is if ISU will be able to move the ball on the ground when pinned deep, and protect the ball/keep from turning it over.

Someone above suggested ISU try and pressure Petras and I don't think that makes much sense. I think you try and stuff the run and see if he can hit the broad side of a barn.

I'm excited for the game. I won't predict us to win until it happens, however. Just haven't proven to be good enough in this one for a good while now.

Not exactly sure.

Think about when Park played against Iowa. That was a shootout. Dekkers has that type of arm also.

They’d be screwed and they know it.
I feel like this year the Hawkeyes will be taking more chances defensively. Dekkers is inexperienced and they won't want to be playing from behind.

Southern Iowa
Hunter Dekkers had an incredible game. Nrock had a great game after a slow start.
Hutch looked amazing.
We still don't have a clue how this game will play out.
To me it's straight up across the board.

Michigan really beat em at their own game which starts up front. Iowa always loses their edge when a team with the same style has superior athletes like Michigan or Wisconsin. The 170 guy is Wandale Robinson who ran a 4.3 40 at the combine & I bet a lot of that is YAC

Iowa's defense is as awesome as their offense is terrible.
Their punter is going to get drafted. Probably not in the 7th ground.

We have 3 linebackers and often have one of them on the line. We never have only 5 guys in the box. And Iowa has not run the ball on us. When we have blitzed against Iowa, they haven't got home. I agree we need to bring pressure, but it has to be effective pressure. Iowa usually picks up our blitzes.

SDSU wasn't blitzing as much as their front 4 was getting immediately through the Iowa OL.

Field position has been the main issue in our series.

Brian is the next HC. Barta and Kirk are retiring together. Kirk announces his retirement, Barta promotes the constipated one, and then announces his retirement effective in a a month or two.
I think there is no chance BF is the next head coach. They are just not throwing a fit because of KF. They are winning despite a very poor offense over the years. I don’t hunk Kirk has been hanging on thinking maybe BF will figure it out and have a couple good years to make it palatable for BF to take over.

Did Iowa pull a Nebraska with their sell outs? There are a high amount of groups of 10-18 tickets in a single row and several rows in one section that is listed for 120-135 per ticket.

I bet they don't play the song I voted for in the Wave song selection contest. What you say? They changed the rules after I voted?
