Why do the donors allow him to remain as their hapless OC?
Good question. Maybe because of 10-2, or out of patient deference to KF as long as we keep winning. KF has a lot of earned credit. But when he's out of the picture, and in all likelihood Phil leaves as well, I can't see them standing by with BF being handed the keys.

Not a bad job by the OP. My only big disagreement is defensive back. If there's cracks I'm not seeing it. A safety walk-on is not unusual for an Iowa defense at all. I think many Iowa fans were pleasantly suprised with Schulte Saturday. It was amazing to see a guy that small hit that violently.
With Jermari Harris back a CB room of Moss, Robert's, Harris, and Dejean who plays all over is as good as probably any team you'll play this year

Other than Petras being horribly inaccurate, the biggest thing I noticed on that side of the ball was their OL was getting killed. Multiple defenders in the backfield immediately after the snap. And then Petras is immobile and will usually take a sack without even trying to get outside the pocket.

I'm really interested in Iowa's offensive gameplan. I'm expecting a lot of jailbreak screens and jet sweeps to Bruce, who is a really good young receiver. He can bounce off tackles and make people miss.

Iowa's defense is truly an elite unit. Their DL is good, but their LBs are dominant. Campbell is an animal and changes the game on his own. I do think their safeties are a weak spot if they have one. We saw Merriweather get beat and lucked out on an overthrow. Schulte looks small and I would take my chances with our receiver if it's a jump ball.

If Dekkers is poised and he gets time to throw, I like our offensive talent if we have the right gameplan. We're not going to be able to run the ball on their front 7.

Bruce might turn out to be a good/great receiver but he has less then 300 yards in his young career.

There's only 1 thing Gary Barta is beholden to more than Kirk Ferentz. Donors. When donors start making noise, the program bends. This is why KF released that weird January depth chart after the bowl game back when there was so much noise about Beathard needing to be the starter over Rudock. Hadn't ever been done before, hasn't been done since. They did it to appease the donors. There's zero chance donors would stand for BF being the next HC.
Uhm… ok… well, there’s plenty of holes in this logic.

If the DC Parker and Tory Taylor weren’t in the picture I think ISU rolls. With those 2 I can’t predict a win at all

Lol, Brian ain't going to be the next Iowa HC. I know it's kind of the dream, but sorry, no.
Man, I said it when they hired Brian but he had no business being offered that OC job. He really needed to do something outside the program before he was handed those keys. At this point you know Kirk is going to try to make him the next head go h but I don’t think it will actually happen.

Lol, when BF is named HC I'll make sure and give you credit.
Noted. I honestly don’t think he’ll get the job but look at it logically. Dude, Brian has no business having the job he already does and is horrendous at it. He’s already failed up to P5 coordinator job. To say with certainty that he’s never going to get the HC job is silly. The levels at which your fan base sees reality but then says “nah, I’ll make up my own story” never stops being astounding.

He won’t be the next HC. Kirk gave him the OC/QB coach job trying to put him in position for it, but it won’t happen.

Obviously I hope it does and Iowa becomes the new Kansas, but it won’t happen.

This- 100%

So why is that?

I hope we stack the box, bring safety blitzes, and put him on his can 2 out of 3 plays. We’ve got to get to the QB way more than we did on Saturday. If we do that- we easily win this game.

Agreed. I watched a good portion of that Iowa game on replay. SDSU was successful because they had 7 in the box constantly and brought pressure. Our 3 linemen, 2 linebacker scheme gives us only 5 in the box on many plays. That plays into Iowa's hands if you ask me and allows them to get 3 to 6 yard running chunks continuously and does not get to their QB with blitzes and hits.

You can't argue with the results Heacock and Campbell have had collectively and the "bend don't break defense", but the Iowa game is the one where I wish they'd force Iowa to pass and bring pressure. I admit I'm cynical and don't believe anything will change, but I hope this is the week they change that strategy and play like SDSU did. Holding Iowa to 3 points on offense should do it. I'm afraid though we'll see the typical Heacock game plan with only 5 in the box, blitzes on only 10% of plays (often an FBS low) and Iowa will slow the game down with fewer possessions and be able to run successfully.

Our defense this year is not as good as last year (SEMO just got over 320 yards against us) and I think our best chance is to change the scheme to try and shut down Iowa with pressure and many in the box. Fingers' crossed.
