If a business is good, people will seek it out regardless of location.
In HS I worked at a restaurant that was 10 minutes outside of my town(of 8,000 people), about two minutes away from another town(of 2-3 hundred people), it was one of the most popular restaurants, even though it was literally in the middle of no where. And the place you went for special dinners.

I’ve lived in the KC area and have been to power and light several times, not just for the Big12 tournament. It will be fine. People who don’t go all out for tailgating still stop in, people will stop in after the game instead of waiting in their cars, people will come earlier for basketball games, people will come for away games, and well people will just come.

I feel like a lot of people think it’s all bars/restaurants/ all out doors. You’re idiots who should just stop talking.

Your word is the end all because you go to P@L? Slow down there dude. We don't need that much animosity in a city planning discussion. I'm glad you like the plan.

The point was there is a lot more to CyTown than just bars and restaurants, even though the concept you think is happening works everywhere else, but nice reading comprehension.

The flyover looks a lot like Branson Landing. Lots of retail, restaurants, lofts and hotels; just missing the fountain and fireworks. It's a pretty cool area and a place we've been to many times over the years for short vacations, and activities. There's a lot of attractions that bring people to Branson though. The city of Ames, Iowa State and other partners will need to be very creative to bring people in for it to be a year round success. ISU events, concerts, golf, youth sports tournaments, big anchor stores (i.e.: bass pro, top golf), etc.; but they'll need more.

I'd prefer they put a Barntown brewing there instead of Toppling Goliath, but beggars cant be choosers. Looks like its going to be a great place.
You have Barntown in Central Iowa already. I like Barntown beer, but Toppling Goliath is one of the best breweries in the country. If you can bring that in, you bring it in. That will draw the Des Moines crowd to Ames rather than the other way around. Gotta bring business here.

Weren’t Ankeny and Waukee pretty small at one point? They kept building and people keep coming?

I lived in Ankeny a couple years and there was a part of town that I feel like was just a Jeathros and that was it. When I moved away a few years later it what’s a whole district with even more in the surrounding area.

Even my friends house was in a new development of two blocks and now it’s a full blown neighborhood with several streets.

That's true on the location. I might need to give Toplling Goliath another try; I liked the Pseudo Sue but wasn't blown away with it. I should probably branch out on their other beers.

Can we agree that Lucy Van Pelt (always pulling the football away at the last second) and ZiRF are trolls and ignore their posts? I'm opposed to blind acceptance of proposals, but this has been well studied and has a diverse buy-in. Or, we can just bring in a few truckloads of crushed limestone, sell Busch Light out of Igloo coolers, and grill some brats on gamedays.

The people complaining about this are the ones that think Ames can’t support anything beyond a $hitty campus town establishment with specials on Busch Light bottles.

Sorry, but we’ve got to be more creative with how we compete in todays day and age. ISU of the past is going to get us relegated in a hurry.

JP knows this and it’s why he’s investing in coaches, facilities, and branding.

I think this is great sounds like pollard has a solid plan. If TG comes that’s insanely huge cause you gotta generate money year round. It’s gonna work and I think will surpass even what they think it can do cause it’s centrally located you get tons of traffic and it’s easy to get to.

I would aim to have one incredible bar/restaurant/brewery that can thrive year round then bring in food trucks for events so the one eating establishment doesn't limit things. I'm sure they've thought of that and it seems there's unlimited space for it.

I feel like if downtown Ames had always been where Welch is or where "CyTown" is this kind of thing would've happened organically. Incredible they are doing something to make it happen now. Also at this point if somebody doubts JP I have to wonder what planet they've been living on or if they're some kind of secret Iowa/KU/Nebraska fan.

"Help me understand. Does Iowa State own this land? Are they going to sell it?"

That was Randy's question. I literally don't think he paid attention during the presentation.

Why do they let him ask more than one question per presser? They should give him a one question limit if it is a good question then let him have another, dumb question he's done for the day.
